Instaxxx Kickstarter Ends Today!

The Kickstarter for my new book of nude instant film ends in a few hours! At 4:45pm EST (1:45 PST) the Kickstarter will end and while you will still be able to pre-order the book you will no longer get any of the fun rewards like the signed print that comes with all Kickstarter versions!

Kickstarter backers get more stuff too like a secret bonus zine for the price of shipping, a super cheap Kickstarter exclusive enamel pin and access to a behind the scenes blog and probably a solid discount coupon for Girls of Driven By Boredom.

Even if you can’t afford/ don’t want/ don’t want your wife to see the book you can still help out a bunch by just throwing in $1. Right now Instaxxx is the 57th most backed photo book in Kickstarter history and about 25 backers short of cracking the top 50. Would love to hit that in the last few hours. Seems a bit out of reach but raising $19,000 did too!

There are still a few Instax signed by porn stars left too. Missy Martinez (see below) and Jillian Janson both have a couple of signed Instax left. The ones of Jillian are kinda extra special because I shot them while being filmed by Showtime for their AVN Awards program so you might see one of your Instax on TV if you get one…

Anyway, that’s it I got no more promotion left in me. Just a few hours left and it’s over!

Back Instaxxx on Kickstarter now!

Also, just FYI tomorrow I am in a Valentine’s Day art show called “Dirty” at Tender Trap. It’s the third annual one but the first one I have had art in. I have a photo of Heather Vahn in it and will be taking some photos because I haven’t really shot any parties in a while and why the fuck not? Maybe I can take some dirty photos, make out with a stranger or two and celebrate my new book. Seems like a reasonable way to spend Valentine’s Day right?

Introducing My Third Book: Instaxxx

When I was 19 my girlfriend gave me a Polaroid camera and let me take naked photos of her. They were some of the first naked photos I ever took and 17 years later I am still photographing friends, lovers and of course naked models and porn stars on instant film.

I have spent the last 6 months or so working my ass off on my third book “Instaxxx” and the Kickstarter just launched.  This is probably the biggest project I have ever worked on and I hope at the end it’s the best thing I have ever put my name on.

If you have ever been a fan of anything I’ve ever done this is the best possible way to support my work. The early bird reward for the book is only $20 and there’s so many other things you can get like prints and discounts of my zines and even my actual Instax Wide camera. Even donating $5 will help.

Still looking to shoot more for it and I am gonna be working on it through February. Going out to Vegas and LA at this month to work on it as well. I have spent so much time on this book and I have so much left to do but this is the biggest step.

The video for it is pretty amazing as well. It features 20 topless babes talking about the project. My friend Ronen V helped me a ton with it so thanks to him for that and of course thanks to all the girls for helping too!

Oh, and I uploaded over 100 of the photos I have scanned so far to Girls of Driven By Boredom if you wanna check out more of the work.

Now please click here and back Instaxxx: A Book Of Nude Instant Photography!

Unrealized Projects Zine Collection!

The New York Art Book Fair is this weekend and I always try and do something new for it. I am not actually selling anything at the NYABF but my new zines will be available from the Bad Books table at the new offshoot art book fair, the Independent Art Book Fair. I realize that is mildly confusing but the majority of you don’t live in NYC anyway, so you can just get my zines from the Driven By Boredom Etsy store. Anyway, let’s get in to it….

I am constantly coming up with bad ideas for projects or art shows or zines or websites or whatever it may be. Often those ideas are just collections of images that I pull together when I realize I have a few similar shots. For example my book Dinner With Igor came about because I just would take photos of friends when we were out to dinner and when I lined up a bunch of these things together they made for a pretty interesting body of work.

Unrealized Projects is a series of zines that didn’t end up being quite as interesting… or maybe they did but there just weren’t enough of them. I also wanted to do some old school black and white photo copied zines like I used to make when I was a punk rock kid in high school so I decided on making several black and white zines and packaging them together.

Each package comes with three black and white zines and an insert explaining the project with a photo on the back. Each insert is signed and numbered out of 50 and each package comes in a black envelope with a sticker designed by zine and button maker Emma Karin who also did all the titles to the zine. Also she helped me assemble all of these things and apparently now I owe her a ton of free food.

This series will hopefully continue with three more zines in the future but these things ended up being oddly expensive so you guys gotta buy them first… so let’s talk about the first three.

Unrealized Projects Volume 1: Who’s In My Rental Car?
This zine is the longest of the three zines and is a collection of photos taken in my rental cars over the years. Whenever I travel I book the rental car even before I get a hotel because worst case I can crash in the car. After a decade of traveling all over the country as a photographer I have taken so many photos in rental cars. The zine is a good mix of nudity, musicians and just way too many people crammed into a tiny car. I also made a randomizing website for these images with my friend Justin. It is incredibly stupid.

Who's In My Rental Car?

Unrealized Projects Volume 2: Fuck Yo Couch!
Remember this Dave Chappelle skit with Rick James? Well realized I had a handful of weird photos of people on my couch (technically it’s a futon) and decided it would make for another really dumb website. I didn’t actually make that website yet (mights still happen?) but I did make this zine. This zine is mostly just photos of naked girls on my couch but there’s also some not naked girls on my couch and some other weird surprises. Still, I like to think my couch has more fun than your couch, so fuck yo couch.

Fuck Yo Couch

Unrealized Projects Volume 3: Celebrity Selfies
This zine came about because I wanted to submit some stuff to a photo magazine that was doing a “Selfies” themed issue. I knew I had a bunch of photos of celebrities taking selfies so I figured that would be some sort of interesting commentary on vanity and celebrity and this culture of trying to impress people via your social media… but then I decided that was fucking stupid and just turned it into a really short zine. All of the photos in this one are digital so that’s a first for me since most of my print works are 35mm.

Celebrity Selfies

Now normally my zines are $10 each but you get all three of these, plus the signed/numbered insert for $12. The margins on these suck so I have to sell most of them just to break even, but I am pretty into these things and I hope you guys are too. Buy them on Etsy or swing by the IABF this weekend!

Ps. Thanks to Ricardo from Subdrive for helping design the zines!

Eleven – 9.9.16

Last night I celebrated my 10 years in NYC by heading back to 8 Of Swords Tattoo where I had just got my 10 year tattoo to shoot the opening of “Eleven” an art show tattoo artists Drew Linden and Squire Strahan. I am a huge fan of bartering and it was fantastic timing that the shop needed a photographer on the same day I needed a tattoo. Plus the gallery was filled with tattooed babes all night so it’s not like I needed a reason to be there anyway…

The art was rad, I had fun talking to everyone, I heard an insane story about stalking someone using a popsicle stick puppet and about a half dozen new cute girls follow me on Instagram so the night went pretty well. Plus there was free PBR and Michter’s whiskey so by the end of the night people were in a serious picture taking mood.

Now go check out the work by both artist and maybe get a tattoo from them (Drew is at 8 Of Swords and Squire owns Trilogy Tattoos in Tampa). The work is also going to be up at 8 Of Swords for a while so stop by and check it out and get more tattoos. And now that you’ve done all that go look at the photos.

Prince Tribute On Prince Street

Last night after Spike Lee’s Prince block party I headed down to the Lower East Side to see if I could find some people celebrating Prince.

My friends Ky and Jeremy were DJing Jarome’s and spinning Prince all night so I stopped in there first. Apparently I got there too early because it was a bit slow. I heard it got crazy a few hours later.

I decided to just walk around lower Manhattan. I heard their was a Prince tribute at the Prince Street Subway station so I figured if I just started walking that way I might run into something. I figure I would just walk down Prince Street as far as I could and hopefully find something to photograph.

I saw some mylar balloons hanging on a traffic light and when I looked carefully I realized they spelled Prince. They were all jumbled together so I didn’t even take out my camera. I just took a photo for my Snapchat. But as I walked down the street I came to another street light covered in balloons but this time it was a work in process.

I pulled out my camera and started shooting the small group of people trying to throw these weighted balloons up onto the street light. It took some doing and as they continued a slightly bigger crowd gathered. Someone had a boom box and started blasting Prince. I started talking to the artists who were creating this helium memorial and they told me they were headed to the New Museum next. They handed me an I balloon and we headed to the next stop.

When we got to the New Museum they spelled out Prince in front of the museum in balloons and then spread glitter everywhere. More people gathered as as they worked. They started spraying Prince stencils everywhere with chalk paint. By the time they were finished the New Museum had become a dance party.

I took a group photo and then everyone split up and I continued on to the Prince Street Subway where I found a couple tributes to Prince. By that time it was 2 or 3 am and I figured it was time to call it a night.

It’s a tragedy that Prince died but it was a really inspiring night and to see so many people come together is kinda wonderful. So instead of mourning Prince let’s all party like it’s 1999.

Click here to see the Prince tributes on Prince Street.

Ps. These photos are mildly NSFW cause someone pulled out their dick in the background of the group portraits because of course they did.

Jeanette Hayes Paradise?? Opening – 4.7.16

Last night I went down to the Lower East Side’s Castor Gallery to check out Jeanette Hayes‘ show ‘Paradise??’. She combines classical painting with “futuristic” holograms (that were popular 20 years ago) to create a feeling that you might get if you were to walk into The Met 200 years in the future when .gifs and bedazzled MySpace pages stand next to Greek statues and Renaissance paintings.

In Nothing But Flowers the Talking Heads once sang “If this is paradise, I’m gonna need a lawn mower.” Well if this is Paradise, I’m gonna need a new Tumblr.

Aside from the wild art it was an awesome chance to see a lot of people I used to hang out with in night clubs when I first moved to NYC. Turns out all those people are still here, they just happen to be in their 30s and going to art shows instead of dance parties. Oh, and there were a lot of puppies for some reason. Puppies are very important in the New York art world.

The show is going to be up all month so make sure you get a chance to check it out. And go down stairs where there is a video installation and drawings (Plus National Geographic holograms!). And thanks a bunch to Jeanette and Castor for having me out last night. I had a blast.

Jeremyville Pop-Up Gallery Opening – 3.31.16

Last night I went down to the Original Penguin shop on Broadway for a pop-up gallery opening from artist Jeremyville. He has done a few collaborations with Penguin and they did a book giveaway and sold prints and he signed stuff and there was a bunch of free chicken on sticks which is really important because chicken is delicious. I also Buff Monster there and in one week I am getting a drawing he drew of me tattooed to my leg so that’s something.

Anyway sorry to make this write up so quick but I am running late for band practice. Yeah, I am trying out for another shitty punk band and I say shitty with nothing but love. Will let you know how that goes (as long as it goes well). Now go look at photos!

35mm Artist Portraits

For some unexplained reason I haven’t really picked up my camera recently. Not sure if it’s the winter or the holidays or what but I just haven’t had a reason to shoot. So I figured this would be a good opportunity to publish some of the outtakes from my Arts zine. I photographed a ton of artists for this, and then I also had a bunch of shots I had taken in the past that sort of inspired the zine in the first place.

Essentially this is a collection of 35mm black and white photos of artists. This gallery includes the shots that are in the zine, and some outtakes from those shoots, but it also includes a handful of photos of artists that didn’t make the zine for whatever reason. They didn’t make the zine because they are photographers or don’t make work on paper, didn’t get the art into me in time (God dammit Oliver!) or I just didn’t know them well enough to ask.  Whatever the case there are a bunch of pretty black and white photos in here that you should look at.

So take a look at the photos and then buy a copy of the zine. You need Arts in your life!

T-Shirts, Turtles & Takeovers!

Hi there. I have some stuff for you guys and I figured I could throw all of it in one post and use alliteration in the title to make it seem more like this post has a real purpose and not just a thinly disguised attempt to sell you more shit you don’t need. Let’s begin.

First up, I found 17 old Driven By Boredom t-shirts under my couch. These shirts were for DBB’s 8th anniversary back in 2009. Apparently I forgot they were there. I threw them up on Etsy last night and now there are only 12 left and honestly I might keep a couple of them so if you want one, you should do it soon. Just saying. ORDER NOW!

Damon James In The DBB T-Shirt

Next up… Remember my Arts zine? I am really proud of that thing. It features really lovely black and white portraits of some amazing artist friends of mine and a selection of their art work. It’s printed well, inexpensive and fairly collectable given it’s small edition and great collection of artist… but because it doesn’t have any nudity in it, no one bought it. Seriously, I have sold like 30 of them. All of my other zines have done great, but this one? Not so much. I have learned my lesson… Fuck art, more tits.

Anyway, at the Zine Friends release party for Arts I traded amazingly talented human Penelope Gazin a print of a tiny puppy on a giant butt for a bunch of 5″x7″ drawings of the art school test turtle on the cover of Arts. (Side note – that turtle has an actual name and that name is Tippy.) I am keeping one of the drawings because it was a drawing of a turtle vomiting at the site of my genitals which seemed important. But the other four turtles are now for sale with the zine! So get your own Penelope Gazin drawing now! Do it!

Lastly, tonight my Dolphins are playing in their first and only Monday Night Football game of the year. Seemed like a perfect occasion to debut the video from the 2015 #MetLifeTakeover. The Takeover is a massive tailgate party/group trip that my club Dolfans NYC organizes to MetLife Stadium when the Dolphins come up to play the Jets.

The game went very poorly for the Dolphins but we threw a hell of a party! We had  nearly 1000 people go with us and had a huge tailgate with live music, catered food and free drinks thanks to Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, Sailor Jerry rum and AquaHydrate water. We had the CEO and Vice-President of the Dolphins stop by the tailgate and even Ace Ventura showed up! Check out the video!
