This is going to be a quick one I hope. Twice a year (the video recap comes later…) I do a post about this massive tailgate party I throw for charity when the Dolphins play the Jets and every year I explain what it is twice and I can’t imagine too many people care about this part of my life. You want to see the crazy photos and those are coming less and less often so I am going to take it easy on you and not explain what you are looking at too much.
But real quickly, I co-founded a Dolphins fan club in NYC back in 2008. Despite me and my business partner not living in NYC anymore we keep running it. Our biggest event is the Dolphins @ Jets game where we buy group tickets and throw a huge party before the game. Oh did I mention we are a non-profit and have donated over $100k to charity over the years?
Anyway, this year was a really fun one. We had a bunch of former Dolphins players show up at the tailgate, (as well as the Dolphins social media team) we sold nearly $3000 in raffle tickets and we made some really sick new merch that we sold a ton of. We bought years worth of merch so we haven’t broken even on that yet, and between the busses, DJ, videographer etc we had a lot of expenses, but we still were able to donate $3500 to five different charities. Two associated with the Dolphins, one for cancer, one for disabled veterans and a one that is helping the flood recovery efforts in Florida. I love this part of my life.
I took a bunch of photos that you might want to look at. Every year this is the hardest event for me to cover because I am working. I decided to bring a cheap plastic lens to make it easy on myself and for the first time in my photo career I put the camera on full auto and it actually worked out fairly well, but I did have to edit more than normal. I don’t really plan on doing that again… at least until this event next year.
