The newest movie from filmmaker Joe Swanberg is one of the most realistic I have ever seen. It was completely improved (the script was a drawing), the films cast was made up of other filmmakers, and the entire film was shot in less than a month. The film is basically about a girl who does not know what she wants in a relationship so she bounces around from guy to guy in her small circle of friends. Her break up with her first boyfriend was nearly exactly how the break up with my last girlfriend went and left me despising her for the rest of the movie. It was touching, and funny and um… other good things. Joe’s Q and A after the movie was pretty amazing too. The film was made in such a different way from the way you would expect movies to be done. He would edit at night and the next day they would watch what he had and then create a new scene that day. In NYC you can see for the next week at the IFC, if not you can watch it on IFC On Demand if you have cable. I would watch it at once. Yup. I’m going to see another one of Joe’s films Kissing On The Mouth tonight. I have seen it before and it is outstanding as well. Here is a clip of one of the more disturbing scenes in the film. I hosted my first party and I think it was a success. I brought the entire cast and crew and friends of Hanna Takes The Stairs (review coming tomorrow) and gave them free booze and a back room for themselves. They were happy I think. It was the first time I have seen the back of High Voltage have a dance party (also the last as they are moving to 200 Orchard next week). Anyway, the movie was sweet, the party was great and I may or may not have gone home with two girls, but that’s just between me, them, and my camera. So Shhh…. Oh by the way, I took all these photos with a broken point and shoot digital camera my dad gave to me. I couldn’t really work it or aim properly. So these photos really suck, they suck so much that I did not put my logo on them out of embarrassment. I also put them up on my former lover, 476ad.com instead of my site. Yup Yup. Check em. A day late, yet no less wonderful. I had just seen Superbad and I was feeling pretty super bad so I had a bunch of fun. My hearing is fucked up and that was the first time I had had my fucked up ears in a night club. It felt so weird. I could hear people talking perfectly but the music was muted. It was so strange. My friend came into town for some reason so I had to wake up earlier that I wanted to and then I fell asleep and I just woke up and I don’t have time to upload pictures from last night. On the positive side my friend is like the skinniest girl alive and she ate a ton of food and let me take slightly naked photos of her looking pregnant because of all the food she ate. Those are funny. Anyway, I am probably not going to take real photos tonight because I am hosting HV.  I just want to have fun and not carry my camera around so I think I’ll just bring my point and shoot. Or something like that…  By the way, the real reason I posted this was so I could let you know that Greenland is playing at the Cake Shop around midnight tonight.  You should go, they are amazing and I’ll be there.

One of my favorite bands to see live was PCP Roadblock.  They moved to CA and I haven’t heard from them since, but we grew up in the DC scene together and then they moved to Richmond a few years before I did.  So I probably saw them 20 times over 8 years or something.  I have a ton of video, but this is probably the best of it.  This was one song after Dirty Bobby broke a beer bottle over his head and started bleeding everywhere like he was known to do.  Once I saw them open up for Gwar in DC and they pissed so many people off they basically got run out of town.  Some how the sprinklers got set off and destroyed a $20k mixing board and so the owner of the 930 club came down and hosed them off personally in the middle of winter after cutting the break line in their van.  It was insane.  Another thing to note in this video was that their bassist Mike decided he would play the entire show just bobbing his head up and down like he was in an early 60’s rock band.  This video was taken at the Tokyo Rose in Charlottesville, VA in probably 2002 or 2003.  Word.
