Shay is one of my favorite models although she had to run off to some exotic location to have a tiny human with my buddy JM Darling. Luckily I have been hoarding these photos forever so now I still have what is actually my 6th Shay post which has got to be some sort of record. This one, like all the other Murphy’s Ranch sets is great!

I am leaving town for the weekend and then I have an oppressively busy week next week so I might not get a chance to update again for a while so I figured I would leave you with something good. No, I take that back, I am leaving you with something great.

Over a year ago I took two of my favorite models ever, April O’Neil and Shay Laren to Murphy’s Ranch near Malibu, CA. I had read about it on one of those “abandoned places” lists and could not wait to try and shoot there. It took some searching and a lot of hiking but we finally got there and took some amazing photos of some really hot ladies.

But first, let’s talk about Murphy’s Ranch. Murphy’s Ranch was a compound for American Nazi sympathizers during WWII. They had this idea that they would hide out in the middle of the mountains in what is now Topanga State Park until after the Nazi’s won the war. The whole thing didn’t go super well for them and the US Government raided the compound the day after Pearl Harbor. In the 60’s some hippies lived there in a commune but a forest fire chased them out and it has been abandoned ever sense. There is now dispute between LA County and the CA State Parks over who should own the land. Although it is in the border of Tapenga State Park, the CA Park Service won’t take it until LA County gets rid of the structures that still stand there, but because it’s so hard to get to it would cost millions to deal with the compound. So now it is a technically off limits part of LA County but it’s a fairly popular hiking trail and apparently a big hit for crossfit assholes.

So between hiding from hikers, smoking teenagers and another photoshoot we took some really fun photos and it just happens that the photos were of unreasonably hot women so it works out really well. On top of that we took a LOT of photos so this gallery is only about half the images! I will have solo galleries of both April and Shay coming in the future so get really excited about that too.

Despite this being one of my favorite shoots ever, it has taken way too long for me to publish these. Sometimes when I take photos I am really excited about I just hold on to them for way too long although the few 35mm photos I have posted have been a huge hit. I even included a two page spread of them in Fuck LA.

So yeah, go look at these photos right now. I posted them yesterday on Girls of Driven By Boredom and Girls of DBB has some extra slightly more dirty shots as well. I am sure you won’t be too upset about that.

Juggalos are over and it’s time to move on with life. Let’s hit the ground running with a bunch of super babely photos of Shay Laren!

Shay is one of my favorite models and a pretty awesome human as well. Last time I was in LA we were hanging out at some sort of yeti themed bar and Shay started giving me shit about how I never let her wear pretty stuff in shoots because I think frilly underwear is silly. I then of course gave her shit for being too posey and then we made fun of each other for the rest of the night. At some point though I promised I would shoot a bunch of photos of her in a bunch of her sexy underwear so that she could sell it to dudes online.  I also happened to have been given this really amazing Wu-Tang 36 Chambers sweater and I figured I could shoot her in that too.

So as I was walking up to her place with the sweater in my hand I suddenly realized her roommate has an actual 36 Chambers gold record in her damn living room. Seriously. I have no idea how I forgot about that but it seemed like the greatest kismet ever. Fucking amazing.

We banged out this whole shoot in like 20 minutes because we are both god damned professionals. The longest part of the whole thing was her putting on new clothes every time. We just shot in her back yard and she did one strip tease after another until we had shot everything. We broke out the gold record and I even got a few photos of her in my punk rock photo vest thing. It was pretty sweet.

In conclusion, Shay rules, Wu-Tang rules and clearly Shredders Apparel rules for sending me this epic Wu-Tang sweater. I think they might send me some more of their epic sweaters so expect more babes in and out of life changing warm weather outerwear.

Shay Laren is the easiest model I have ever photographed. Both times I have shot her she has a) had a location b) had her outfits picked out c) been perfect. She is so pretty, has an amazing body, is totally cool and 50% of the photos I take of her come out great. Usually when shooting models that ratio is more like 1 good one for every 10 photos. Ellen Stagg told me about Shay ages ago and she spoke so highly of her and it’s really clear why Ellen loves Shay. She is a god damned professional.

Shay Laren is one of my new favorite models and I am sure if you saw the last set I posted of Shay you would understand why. When I photographed the amazing Penthouse Pet, I was running super late and I was worried we would run out of light. We shot the first set in her back yard where I knew we would have enough light, but then we decided to go inside to shoot the second set and somehow the light lasted just long enough for us to get some amazing shots. Because of the lack of light I shot most of the inside shots at 1.4 and if you are a camera nerd you will understand what that means. Basically to let in enough light I sacrificed depth of field making everything other than the main focus point blurry. I often shoot girls at 2.8 or lower because it looks nice but it is pretty hard to get the right things in focus when you are trying to do a shoot super fast before the sun goes down.  So I missed a few shots but I think we got some great stuff.  Shay is amazing and the light was lovely so it was hard to fuck up. The only problem with the set is that she is completely naked, except for an unzipped hoodie, in every shot so it was hard for find stuff that is safe for work for the main page.  I think that when your biggest problem with a set is that it is too NSFW you are probably doing something right.

So Shay Laren is sexy as a motherfucker.  Like seriously this girl is a babe. She also happens to be unreasonably awesome. You cannot fuck with this broad. She is a Penthouse Pet and a favorite of naked girl photographer Ellen Stagg. Those are some important credentials and I was glad to shoot her.  Not only did I get to shoot her, but we did TWO photo shoots in one day. This is important cause you are gonna look through all these hot photos and be perhaps bummed that she didn’t get fully naked.  Well don’t worry, those pics are coming. You just have to wait and keep checking back every 5 minutes every day until they are up. Seriously, the next set of Shay I am going to post is amazing. You have been warned.

In other news, I am in LA for another 10 hours and then I am back to NYC for 40 hours and then off to Austin. Gonna try to update on the plane for tomorrow with pictures from Musink in Orange County but no promises.

These “Best of” posts keep coming as I slowly get all my images organized. The 2013 best of gallery was a bit of a turning point though because at some point during 2013 I got a little more organized and so a lot of the work is already done. It goes a lot faster. I am actually done with 2016 too but I will wait to post the best of 2015 first. But, not one bit of this is interesting so let’s start talking about the reason we are here: 2014.

I think I peaked as a photographer in 2014. I lost my favorite client in the middle of 2014 over some shit that I had very little to do with, and then my life sort of detonated in 2015. I have shot a bunch of stuff that I am fairly proud of since then, but looking back at the first half of 2014 I really shot some stuff I loved. My shoot with Raven Rockette at Rock-a-Hoola and my shoot with April O’Neil and Shay Laren at Murphy’s Ranch were two of my favorite shoots of all time and they happened in the same week! 

Some other highlights of 2014 included following Hannibal Buress when he opened up for Aziz Ansari at Madison Square Garden, hanging out with Iggy Pop in Miami, and watching Joey Chestnut propose at the Coney Island hot dog eating contest. I got to shoot Motley Crue from a million miles away on their “last tour” and I got to shoot Miley Cyrus which was surprisingly enjoyable. I shot MIA and a hologram for a tequila and a ton of fun stuff for Sailor Jerry including the Sailor Jerry House at SXSW. 

I shot a ton of stuff for the Village Voice including two of my favorite assignments of all time, Antiques Roadshow and the Westminster Dog Show. I shot some festivals for them as well including 4 Knots, Fool’s Gold Day Off, and of course the Gathering of the Juggalos. The girl I was dating for a bunch of 2014 was a writer for the Voice and we covered a bunch of stuff together, but the one thing we did together that didn’t end up in the Voice was our trip to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. It was so fucking insane. 

I feel like I got a couple more things left to mention before I let you guys get to the 300+ photos. 2014 Art Basel was the last time I went down there after I managed to somehow lose money. It was still a great trip though and I got to see a Dolphins game so I shouldn’t complain too much. I got to shoot John Amos for an article that I don’t think ever ran, but it was great to meet a legend like that. Speaking of legends I also got to shoot Robert Rodriguez, Robert Duvall and a bunch of other actors and directors not named Robert during the SXSW Film Fest including the cast of Silicon Valley. Oh, also I should mention that I shot this Rockabilly convention in Vegas incase you are wondering what all the insane haircuts are all about. Fair warning. 

The one thing I hate about looking back on all these photos is seeing the people I will never see again. The last photo I ever took of Dust La Rock is in this gallery. My really good friend DJ Jess died three years ago this week. I feel like I don’t have a ton of photos of Spam because he was usually behind a bar working but I found a couple and included one in this gallery. My brother from another mother Denny is in this gallery too. Too many people gone.

Lastly, I  should mention that I only found one naked girl gallery I hadn’t published. That’s a good thing because I have way too many that I still need to publish. The one I did find was of a girl named Alison Faye who left the adult industry shortly after we shot and I just never got around to posting them. The set was fairly small anyway, so I just decided to upload the whole thing to Girls of Driven By Boredom so it’s there if you want to see it.
