Enter Shikari got on stage and I thought they were going to suck. The lead singer was wearing mesh shorts and sandals and the bassist was wearing a Transformers shirt. I then immediately had my face melted. These dudes were fucking awesome. They were a hardcore band at a show full of electro groups (although they do use some sequencing). They jumped off stage and played all around the very small crowd. This band should be playing in a packed dark club full of moshing and circle pits, yet they had to play this out door show in the middle of the day to 30 people. They had a few dedicated fans, but they were playing at 3PM and during SXSW no one is awake then. People drink from the time they wake up until 2Am and no one wakes up for day shows. Still, these guys rocked the fuck out of everyone who was there and their lead singer jumped in the pool during the middle of the set. Fucking awesome. Check out the somewhat surreal photos.

Sebastian Grainger was in Death From Above 1979 now he has his own project called Sebastian Grainger & The Mountains. Of course I some how managed to misspell his name when making a folder for his images which led me to misspell his name on the gallery and on the image tags. All of this would take me like 2 hours to fix, so let me just apologize now for the mistake because I don’t have it in me to fix it. At least I caught it before I made the post. These guys played right as it was getting dark and I got to play around with longer exposures and I think some of the shots came out pretty well. I hope you like them.

I completely forgot about that fact that I agreed to host High Voltage on Wednesday at Annex. I just saw the flier and now I have to spend tomorrow making sure people show up! DJ Jess is DJing which will be fun. It should be a blast. I was going to do a photo booth or a video booth or something fun, but I think I am out of time to do that so let’s just party forever. Come hang out with me and drink my free vodka.

Lies In Disguise DJd at night so I think the best photos might be of them and MSTRKRFT as it started to get dark. I sort of hate shooting during the day especially with the sun right behind everyone. I am going to have more stories and things about the event as the week goes on.

Okay… so here is the beginning. I went to South By Southwest in Austin, TX to shoot the Dim Mak, BPM Magazine, Magnum PR, Sansa Playground. It was a three day event at an Elk Lodge. There were tons of weird things going on and all sorts of musicians hanging out. I have like 15 updates worth of photos to give you. I can’t put them all up because some are going to magazines and papers and things and there are exclusives and blah blah blah. So far I can give you all the bands that aren’t Hanson and Shwazye. I am also leaving out a few other bands that are getting their own galleries. Today you also get the DJs, but you can see that next post. Here is the thing… I shot so many bands, and there were so many different schedules printed that I really have no idea who was who. So I am just going to give you a list of bands that may or may not be featured in this gallery. If you notice someone missing, let me know.

I spent all day trying to organize these photos and send bunch of different versions of all my photos to different people for different things. I don’t even know.

Sorry for the total lack of content. Last time I went out of town I was all prepared with Auto Updates and stuff. Next time I leave town I’ll try to be on top of shit. SXSW is over and despite the bullshit and the broken camera I had a blast and have a bunch of weird stories to tell about the trip. I took nearly 3000 photos and am probably going to upload half of them over the next week. I get back tonight at midnight, so Tuesday I go back to work. I think I have about 8 updates worth of stuff to go up at probably 2-3 a day. No naked people though. Lots of boring photos of DJs though. I spent 5 hours last night organizing photos and I still have to go through them all and put them in to separate categories to make sense of them all. I don’t have to leave until 5 tomorrow, plus an 8 hour trip back to NYC, so I should have a lot of time to work everything ready to go by Tuesday.

On the bright side, I found out that since my camera is so old I can get one used for less than I paid for my flash. This experience did stress to me the importance of having a back up system, so I think I am going to get a used D70 (my current camera) and then use the money I made from this trip and the money I hope I will be making from Winter Music Conference to buy a D300 or something. I got to play around with a Cannon on Friday and and then I shot with a different Cannon on Saturday and I have to say that I am pretty happy sticking with Nikon.

Anyway, so you can have something to look at, my friend got his name shaved into the back of his head by a drunk hair stylist at a bar on Friday and we had a long conversation about hair design videos on YouTube. What I noticed about these videos is that while some of these hair cuts are fucking amazing, all the videos about them have the worst fucking music on earth as the soundtrack.

So today my camera broke. Like for no reason, out of nowhere. Something in it just said no more. I had to rent a camera and I am pretty fucking destroyed. I think it is going to cost an insane amount to fix it, so I will probably just get a new camera… maybe the D300. I have no money for this, but this gig is paying well and I think I got a job shooting Winter Music in Miami so hopefully that will cover the new camera, only… I need it BEFORE I go to Miami, so I will probably be selling some shit soon.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE! If anyone in NYC has a Nikon D70 or 80 or D1x or anything like that they never use and would let me borrow until I can get a new camera I would be extremely grateful and I could probably toss you a bit of $.

Anyway, right now I am on my friends computer and having an allergic reaction to his cat. And he just played a the worst show of his career (and once I saw him get in a fist fight on stage with his drummer) and he was pissed off all night. And then he and I tried to get into the Blender party but it didn’t happen, so instead we just walked in to the VIP part of the Blender party and I ran into Drop The Lime and took pictures of Kid Sister throwing peanuts into Diplo’s mouth with my film camera.

Point is… I have shot over 2000 images so far and will figure out how to get them up on here once I get home. I have Sunday free so maybe I can get some updates going on. Also… I might have a photo published in People Magazine… so here’s hoping.

In the mean time watch this stupid extremely old video of Pikachu singing Mindless Self Indulgence. MSI are horrible, but this video is amazing. I was in love with it in like 2001 and I just heard the song for the first time in at least 5 years yesterday and I had to watch it again… so now you have to too. Or not. Whatever.

So, updating from now until Monday is unlikely at best. I was staying at this girls house that I met in Austin two years ago. We hit it off so well and she came and visited me in NYC and then we hung out at SXSW last year and we talk via the internets all the time. She picked me up from the air port and I was so fucking excited to see her. We went straight back to her house and made out and were all cute and I was totally excited. She told me she was coming to NYC for an internship this summer and it was awesome. So then I shot this party for 14 straight hours and she didn’t come pick me up and I had to get a ride with these three random girls I met. They took me to this house party where I ran into Cobra Kai, and Jackson and Flick Master Flash and a bunch of people I know from Austin and friends of my brother and Terrence and my friend from NJ and Clayton from Everyone Is Famous and Diplo was swimming by a pool and people were jumping off the roof into the pool and it was amazing… but I was exhausted. Then we got back to my friends house and their friend came over and they smoked weed while I looked at all the photos I took. Then my friend was like “I need to go to bed” and I was like “I’ll be right there.” And that’s when she told me that the guy who brought the weed was going to be sleeping with her tonight and I would be on the couch. I was completely fucking enraged. I was so fucking hurt as well. So I had to sleep on the couch right outside their room while I heard them talk and giggle and moan until 7 fucking AM. I couldn’t sleep at all. In the last three days I took an 8 hour plane trip, shot a 14 hour party, and have slept a max total of 5 hours. I want to die, but I have to shoot all day then party all night.

Anyway, point is, I am obviously not staying with that girl anymore and I am now at my old roommates place and he does not have wireless internet. So I am on his computer, but I don’t have access to mine. So I can’t really do this or any update right… hence the lack of content and even links.

Hopefully I will figure something out, but right now shit is totally fucked up. See you as soon as possible. Fuck.

I am going to the South By Southwest Music Conference today.  I will be there until basically Tuesday because of how expensive it was to fly out on Sunday.  I am going to be shooting the Dim Mak/ BPM Magazine/ Magnum PR parties at the Sansa Playground.  I have no idea if I will be able to get anyone in to this party, but if you are going to be at SXSW email me at igor(at)drivenbyboredom.com because I am going to be free Friday and Saturday nights as well as all day Sunday and I want some fun stuff to do that does not require a badge/wristband.   I need to party forever.

As far as what this all means to my site… I can almost assure you that there will be no updates on Thrusday as I am going to be working a 14 hour say.  Friday and Saturday I may have some time to update and depending on where I am staying hopefully I can get some photos up Sunday.  I would say that things are going to be VERY slow around here until I get back, but I will do my best to keep you updated and full of wonderful content.
