Rocky Business – 2.23.11

Rocky Business headlined a packed show at Mercury Lounge on Wednesday to celebrate the release of their “White People Are Drug Dealers Too” mix tape. I meant to get there in time to catch Hussle Club too, but I totally failed at that.  I managed to catch Trouble Andrew who were fun but I was there to see Rocky Business do their thing.  They are the only Radical Outing members I haven’t seen live so I figured I needed to make an appearance.  They were as good as expected and put on a hell of a show.

You know what? Just look at the fucking pictures already.  Oh, and download their mix tape too.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 8)

Happy Presidents Day! Oh wait… it’s not technically Presidents Day anymore… I sort of fell asleep reading a Time Magazine article on singularity and woke up and it was Tuesday. I’ll take my sleep when I can get it. I’ll also post date this blog post so it looks like I actually got it up by midnight. So I guess I win.

Anyway, we are continuing the All My Friends Are In Bands series with three more videos from musicians that I like both as musicians and as peoples. This week features some videos I wanted to post about a while ago and probably did on my Tumblr already but fuck it, these are all videos I really dig and I want you guys to fucking pay attention to.  Let’s get started.

The oldest one is Johnny Nelson’s “Put Em In A Body Bag”.  I fucking love this song, the video is fucking tight AND most importantly Johnny Nelson has a fucking DBB tattoo so you know that dude is family.  But once again I just wish I was in the fucking video.  Come on guys, we need to start putting me in these fucking things. It’s not like I am doing anything better before midnight…  Honestly though, this song and video are amazing and his brother Telli from Ninjasonik is along for the ride.

The second video is Hussle Club’s “Loose Tights”.  Prince Terry is obviously part of the Driven By Boredom family despite flaking on his DBB tattoo and his Hussle Club is pretty fucking bad ass but I am sure you know about that by now.  The video is sick too although I do have one problem with it. He gets off the J train at Bowery and then ends up at the Delancey F train. I mean there is a J stop in the same station, clearly you missed your stop homie. You live a block from there, you should have that figured out by now…  In all seriousness… good song, good video… watch that shit now.

The third and final video is a documentary about the Death Set’s tour with Girl Talk called The Adventures of Quanni Cannonz.  When that show was in NYC at Terminal 5 I shot it and that’s how I both discovered the Death Set and met Ninjasonik.  All those dudes are fam now so that show was a pretty momentous occasion.  Plus it was a fucking amazing show.  I had seen Girl Talk a bunch of times before anyone ever heard of him but seeing him for the first time in front of a sold out crowd was fucking nuts.  Anyway, the Death Set killed it opening for him and this documentary is fucking hilarious.  It’s 20 min long but well worth watching.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 7)

Here comes the newest installment of All My Friends Are In Bands where I bring you semi regular updates of my friends bands amazing music videos.  Today we have some good ones including one video that I am actually in.  I feel like I should be in all of my friends music videos but clearly they have no idea what they are doing so for whatever reason I don’t end up in all of them. Weird.

Luckily some people are smart enough to realize talent when they see it. Loli Lux is one of those people. She got a two for one deal when she asked me to come hang out at her video shoot.  Not only did I take amazing behind the scenes photos but she got the pure talent that is “Igor” in front of the lens as well.  If you look carefully you can see me lurching around in there taking pictures awkwardly.  It will bestill your heart.  Seriously though, this is the first video from Loli Lux and it is pretty bad ass. She got all of her weird and sexy looking friends, put them in a bar and just started shooting. It was a good time and it ended up being a good video for a good song. Watch that shit.

Next up we have our boys the motherfucking Death Set. I know you guys saw the pictures I took of them with hot tattooed naked girls recently and I am sure you know they have this new album coming out.  Well they just released the first single off that album called “Slap Slap Slap Pound Up Down Snap” and they have a pretty fucking awesome video for it.  This video is so good that they had to release another video just to hype it up. Clearly you need to watch it.

So these updates always come with three videos for some reason and I didn’t have a third video this week.  I solved that problem by uploading this old video of me icing Prince Terrence while Hussle Club was on stage at the Knitting Factory.  Remember when Icing people was so funny? Giving people Smirnoff Ice was like a sport for about a week. If you got one you had to bend down on one knee and rink it.  It was pretty funny for a second and then everyone got over it. Probably for good reason.  I shot this at the very tail end of the Icing craze and by the time I took it off my camera no one cared anymore. I haven’t even looked at this video since. I probably should have edited it or something but I don’t actually give a fuck so enjoy it the way it is. Just skip to the 30 second mark if you are impatient. I gotta go shoot naked girls and hang out in the sun in LA now. Have a nice weekend.

Reckless – 9.4.10

My friend Brock is throwing a biweekly Saturday party at Beauty Bar Brooklyn. I had a friend in town so I brought him and a couple of girls over there. My friend Andy Cassette DJ’d as did Todd from Hussle Club and another girl who’s name I unfortunately forget. It was a good time, I saw old friends, met cute sisters, and Brock got everyone drunk. Too drunk perhaps.

I would tell you more about this but I got some really shitty news today that I will probably address tomorrow. For now I don’t really want to talk about it other than to say if I am not super responsive to emails or whatever other bullshit I have going on in my life I am sorry.

Anyway, that does not change the fact that Reckless at Beauty Bar BK was a good time and you should click here to see the pictures.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 2)

A few weeks ago I dropped some of my friends new music videos on you in a lovely post such as this one.  Today I got three new videos from bands that feature members that I love. I already Tumbled about some of these and I mentioned two of them on this blog, but here they are in living color.

First up is the Hussle Club video for “Good Morning Midnight”.  I have Tumbld about this and I might have linked to it when I blogged about their release party for it.  Second up was also released that at that party but it was not online yet. But the Death Set’s video for “Far Weathered Friends” is online now. And you need to love it. And lastly we have another video I Tumbld, “WTF You Doing In My Mouth?” by the lovely and hilarious Tayisha Busay.  I feel like you need to see them vomit glitter right away.

Anyway, I got things to accomplish. Go watch these videos for the rest of your night, or at least until you find something better to do…

Circa – 6.3.10

Thursday’s edition of Circa was an after party for the Ninjasonik art show.  I shot that art show but I can’t put it up yet cause I gotta wait for it to be published on Complex.com. So in the mean time you just get to see pictures from the after party. Members of The Death Set, Ninjasonik and Cerebral Ballzy showed up with Hussle Club members Prince Terrence and Carol Sharks DJing like they do every Thursday. Adventures were had, open bars got consumed, and Dances With White Girls played Rob Base.  It may take two to make a thing feel right, but it only takes one click to see all the pictures from Circa at Darkroom on Thursday.

The Rest Of South By Southwest

At this point I don’t even really know what to say.  I am fucking free of the burden that was thousands and thousands of pictures that I took during a three week trip which I averaged less than 4 hours of sleep per day.  I really have one special gallery to go up in the future, but I am saving that one. It’s all 35mm and not pictures of bands.  Ignoring that, this is it. This gallery is just full of pictures that didn’t have a place anywhere else. This is the crowd shots and the people hanging out.  This is what SXSW is all about, the friends and the people you meet.  You can see these bands anywhere, but what I remember most about my trips to SXSW are the people I have met.  A lot of them I see every year there and only there. Its my 6th or 7th year in a row but it feel like I have been making the trip my entire life.  As much greif as getting these pictures up has caused me, I can’t wait to go back.  See you in March Austin.

Click  here to see the very last pictures from my SXSW trip.  There are some fun ones in here.

IHeartComix SXSW Showcase – 3.18.10

I had other plans for today but I bought $600 of Ikea furniture yesterday so I am going to spend all day turning my kitchen into an office. It should be pretty intense.  That means today we are going to kick these two updates from the IHeartComix showcase at SXSW over to you with least resistance and explanation.

IHeartComix had their party at Beauty Bar.  I went over there before realizing I needed to be across Austin to see Hussle Club in less than an hour.  I checked out Juiceboxxx then I booked it over to Hussle Club and came back to catch Hollywood Holt and Ninjasonik.  It was all pretty epic, but while I was there I got several crowd shots that didn’t really have a home in any of the other galleries.

And since I love you guys so much, you get to see all the crowd shots from the IHeartComix SXSW showcase at Beauty Bar by clicking right here.

My Gold Mask – 3.18.10

I spent a large chunk of my day today editing 1700 photos down to 350.  I was pretty excited because I was down to under 2000 photos from SXSW.  That’s when I realized I had forgotten about 900 photos.  Still, I am at least making a dent in my SXSW stuff, plus I have some naked girls to go up over the next few weeks, starting with Kylee Kross tomorrow.  That should be fun. Let’s see how much stuff I can get done before I go to DC for my high school anniversary. That should be fucking weird. Oh, I also need to turn my kitchen into an office this week.  That should be something too…

Anyway….

Today I bring you just a few photos from a band called My Gold Mask.  I got a chance to see them because they were playing the Mishka SXSW showcase at Club 1808 right before Hussle Club.  I missed the first half of their set, and I came for the Hussle, but they put on a pretty great show, especially for having just two members.  I left pretty impressed and ready to rock the fuck out.  And you should too, because tomorrow I bring you the Hussle Club shots which are probably the best photos I took on my whole tour.

But for now, click here to see a mini gallery of the awesome My Gold Mask at Club 1808 in Austin.
