Another Episode Of All My Friends Are In Bands…

I have lost track of how many of these “All My Friends Are In Bands” things I have done so this is just a new update. This one is also slightly different because one of the bands I am not friends with at all so it sort of defeats the purpose. That being said I needed a third video and They Might Be Giants are one of my all time favorite bands, there album Join Us is amazing enough that I actually bought it twice and their video features Rip Fucking Torn.

Well I guess we are already starting with the TMBG video so let’s begin with that. As I mentioned their new album Join Us is great. I bought it as an Amazon download and then I bought it again on vinyl which came with a download code which was pretty stupid of me, but this band got me out of the worst time in my life so they can keep my money.  When I was a sophomore in college I broke up with the love of my life and I was destroyed. Like I have never been and never will be destroyed.  Right before she broke up she lent me Flood by TMBG which was one of my favorite albums as a little kid. I started listening to it all the time and then I got into some of TMBGs other stuff and I realized this band was so brilliant and not the joke band that I saw on Tiny Tunes.  Their songs were so sad yet so upbeat at the same time. They were all I listened to for three three months it took me to begin to get over this girl. I have seen them probably ten times (although never in NYC which is odd considering we both live in Brooklyn) and they always were fantastic. There is actually a close up clip of me in the crowd in their documentary.

The other important thing about TMBG is that if it weren’t for them I might never have met The Gaskets, the band I managed for 5 years. A friend called me down to see them because they reminded me of TMBG. The Gaskets weren’t that into TMBG at the time but as soon as I showed them the music we quickly bonded over it and they ended up covering Don’t Let’s Start. (8 years later I am still working on showing their music to the world… and you can help by donating to fund the tribute album dedicated to deceased Gaskets member Ross Harman.)

Anyway, this video is awesome and Rip Torn is a bad mother fucker. I know you want to watch him do battle in some sort of hipster fight club. Seriously, watch it:

Next up we got my dude Ease Da Man’s new video for Levitate. It features Lynx Supreme and is pretty much the only track on the Average Sized Penis mix tape that isn’t about Ease doing drugs. This song is pretty much Ease just spiting madness about how awesome he dresses and setting designer clothes on figure while yelling FUCK SWAG. I support all of this and I sort of think Ease is a brilliant human who should be dead but somehow keeps existing. Plus the hook is catchy as fuck. I already posted this on my Tumblr but watch it again:

Lastly we have Ninjasonik who seem to show up more than any other band in these music video write ups.  They constantly put out videos and they are always pretty fucking awesome. This new video isn’t quite as epic as the masterpiece that was Moshpit but it’s still pretty wild and the opening line telling Pitchfork to suck a dick is real on point. This video is for a track called Prostitute off the No Swords Or Masks mix tape, it guest stars Courcy and it features a lot of graphic Jah Jah on television sex.  Have no idea what I am talking about? Watch the fucking video:

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 9)

This All My Friends Are In Bands series is getting a little out of hand I think.  My friends clearly are making way too many music videos or something.  It’s okay, I gotta do my best to let everyone know about them right?  One day if I ever finally do the redesign of this site I have been planning for years I can post one video at a time when it comes up, like I do on my Tumblr, but until then these bulk video updates are the solution.  So let’s see… Who do we have first?

Let’s start with the new Cerebral Ballzy video Drug Myself Dumb. They got a new video out where they all go to Vegas and take LSD. I haven’t actually talked to them about it but I am pretty fucking sure they are actually on Acid for most of the video. It’s a pretty good concept for a video and a fucking great song if you are into good punk rock, which I of course am.  Also I should mention that yesterday I had a small role (one line) in my friends HBO TV show called Girls that will be out in January and I was wearing my Ballzy Shirt on the show.

Speaking of drugs, if you follow my Tumblr you have seen several photos I posted of my dude Ease DaMan smoking meth out of a light bulb. I tried meth about ten years ago when it was called “Crystal” and it was a cheap club drug and no one was thinking about faces of meth.  I thought it was pretty boring and not scary at all.  Ease wanted to dispel some scary meth myths and one night he hit me up to take photos of him doing it. He smoked over $200 worth of meth and I took pictures. He came to the same conclusion I did. It’s fucking boring.  What is not boring is jumping out of a plane. Ease jumped out of a plane and turned the footage of it into a video for his song We Do Drugs of his “Average Size Penis” mix tape.

Next up we have a video directed by my friend Phillippe Grenade. It’s by a band called Silent Rider and the song is called I Was A Bomb.  I don’t really love the music and I can’t say much about that side of it, but the video is fucking beautiful and really really creepy, not unlike Phillippe himself. And be warned if you click that last link, it is pretty NSFW.  The video is just mildly NSFW and you will undoubtedly enjoy it.

And lastly we have for you the new Ninjasonik video featuring my dude Mr. Starcity. The track is called Bloodymary and you should probably just watch it. The beat is pretty minimalistic and it features my friend Lena as a dominatrix. It’s pretty nuts. I gotta go to band practice now so one day I can make a video so I am gonna get the fuck out of here. I’m done talking watch the fucking video.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 8)

Happy Presidents Day! Oh wait… it’s not technically Presidents Day anymore… I sort of fell asleep reading a Time Magazine article on singularity and woke up and it was Tuesday. I’ll take my sleep when I can get it. I’ll also post date this blog post so it looks like I actually got it up by midnight. So I guess I win.

Anyway, we are continuing the All My Friends Are In Bands series with three more videos from musicians that I like both as musicians and as peoples. This week features some videos I wanted to post about a while ago and probably did on my Tumblr already but fuck it, these are all videos I really dig and I want you guys to fucking pay attention to.  Let’s get started.

The oldest one is Johnny Nelson’s “Put Em In A Body Bag”.  I fucking love this song, the video is fucking tight AND most importantly Johnny Nelson has a fucking DBB tattoo so you know that dude is family.  But once again I just wish I was in the fucking video.  Come on guys, we need to start putting me in these fucking things. It’s not like I am doing anything better before midnight…  Honestly though, this song and video are amazing and his brother Telli from Ninjasonik is along for the ride.

The second video is Hussle Club’s “Loose Tights”.  Prince Terry is obviously part of the Driven By Boredom family despite flaking on his DBB tattoo and his Hussle Club is pretty fucking bad ass but I am sure you know about that by now.  The video is sick too although I do have one problem with it. He gets off the J train at Bowery and then ends up at the Delancey F train. I mean there is a J stop in the same station, clearly you missed your stop homie. You live a block from there, you should have that figured out by now…  In all seriousness… good song, good video… watch that shit now.

The third and final video is a documentary about the Death Set’s tour with Girl Talk called The Adventures of Quanni Cannonz.  When that show was in NYC at Terminal 5 I shot it and that’s how I both discovered the Death Set and met Ninjasonik.  All those dudes are fam now so that show was a pretty momentous occasion.  Plus it was a fucking amazing show.  I had seen Girl Talk a bunch of times before anyone ever heard of him but seeing him for the first time in front of a sold out crowd was fucking nuts.  Anyway, the Death Set killed it opening for him and this documentary is fucking hilarious.  It’s 20 min long but well worth watching.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 7)

Here comes the newest installment of All My Friends Are In Bands where I bring you semi regular updates of my friends bands amazing music videos.  Today we have some good ones including one video that I am actually in.  I feel like I should be in all of my friends music videos but clearly they have no idea what they are doing so for whatever reason I don’t end up in all of them. Weird.

Luckily some people are smart enough to realize talent when they see it. Loli Lux is one of those people. She got a two for one deal when she asked me to come hang out at her video shoot.  Not only did I take amazing behind the scenes photos but she got the pure talent that is “Igor” in front of the lens as well.  If you look carefully you can see me lurching around in there taking pictures awkwardly.  It will bestill your heart.  Seriously though, this is the first video from Loli Lux and it is pretty bad ass. She got all of her weird and sexy looking friends, put them in a bar and just started shooting. It was a good time and it ended up being a good video for a good song. Watch that shit.

Next up we have our boys the motherfucking Death Set. I know you guys saw the pictures I took of them with hot tattooed naked girls recently and I am sure you know they have this new album coming out.  Well they just released the first single off that album called “Slap Slap Slap Pound Up Down Snap” and they have a pretty fucking awesome video for it.  This video is so good that they had to release another video just to hype it up. Clearly you need to watch it.

So these updates always come with three videos for some reason and I didn’t have a third video this week.  I solved that problem by uploading this old video of me icing Prince Terrence while Hussle Club was on stage at the Knitting Factory.  Remember when Icing people was so funny? Giving people Smirnoff Ice was like a sport for about a week. If you got one you had to bend down on one knee and rink it.  It was pretty funny for a second and then everyone got over it. Probably for good reason.  I shot this at the very tail end of the Icing craze and by the time I took it off my camera no one cared anymore. I haven’t even looked at this video since. I probably should have edited it or something but I don’t actually give a fuck so enjoy it the way it is. Just skip to the 30 second mark if you are impatient. I gotta go shoot naked girls and hang out in the sun in LA now. Have a nice weekend.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 6)

So this is the 6th part in a series called All My Friends Are In Bands. Each time I do this I post three videos from musicians I am friends with or directed by friends or something like that.  Normally I talk a little bit about each band and video and it’s sort of a lengthy post. This time I am using these three videos as an excuse to do a really quick update because I have to go on a secret mission today. You will find out more later or more sooner if you follow my Twitter.

Anyway, real quick, the three videos I have for you are my boy Shwazye’s (aka Aaron Smith) solo track Said It All Before, Trouble & Bass’ AC Slater teamed up with Dell “o8o” Harris for a track called “Right Now” and finally a preview to Loli Lux’s video “Wannabe” which I am in.  Well I am in the actual video that comes out in January, not the preview. Still, I gotta represent.

So yeah, watch the videos and I will talk to you fuckers on Saturday.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 5)

Remember the All My Friends Are In Bands series of posts where I show you guys 3 music videos from my friends bands? Well it continues today.  I am in Miami for Art Basel and a Miami Dolphins game and it is going to be pretty hard to get any actual photos to you this week so I have a few updates planned that don’t involve party photos although I may try to get some party photos up too. We shall see.  Anyway, in today’s post we are going to talk about two friends videos and then one other video that I just had to share with you…

The first video is Drop The Lime’s new rockabilly track called Hot As Hell. This shit is pretty fucking awesome.  If every DJ was dropping “baseablilly” tracks I would probably hate my job a little bit less. Just kidding, I love my job, but having epic rock and roll dance jams would be the way to go. I’m just mad I am not in the video… You guys should see me with my hair up…

The second video is a track called “I’ll Show You” by my old friend Raquel Reed.  The track is pretty awesome and it features Redman doing a verse.  She lives in a house north of the city where a bunch of artists record. She said that one day she came downstairs and heard Redman working with her producer and rapping over her track. That seems pretty surreal but evidently he loved it and helped her get the video made. It’s pretty cool.

Lastly I have for you the newest viral sensation from the Insane Clown Posse. After shooting the Gathering of the Juggalos I have become the go to guy for all the important juggalo related content and I had to find a reason to post this video. This video is ICP’s toy drive. The long story short is that if you bring a toy to an ICP concert for poor kids you get a free ICP Christmas CD.  The long story short is this fucking nearly 10 minute video featuring Sugar Slam pretty much parodying the SNL skit that is parodying her. I mean it is so bad it is brilliant. It also features the line “With the tags, fag” which is so fantastic it is unbelievable. Also I met Sugar Slam and ICP so I think this can still fall into the All My Friends category in some loose way. Enjoy!

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 4)

The All My Friends Are In Bands series continues. Every time three of my friends have a new music video out I post them up here for you bastards to enjoy.  This week I was sitting on two videos that I wanted to post but I didn’t have a third so I reached out to my Twitter account for a third video.  I got a few suggestions but they weren’t exactly what I needed so I picked a special video for the third one. You should check out those suggestions anyway.  Check out BST’s band live, check out some insane thing Dan Baxter is working on and check out a video for a band that my friend Brian produced. (He produced the music not the video. Anyway, let’s move on to the videos….

We start with a video that my friend Trev directed. I don’t actually know Ralphy Boy, but I don’t hate him at all. Trev runs The New Pop and wrote and directed the movie epically I starred in. Ralphy Boy’s song is called “Get It” and the whole thing reminds me a little bit of “What’s Up Fat Lip“. So check it out already.

Next up we got the new video from my boy Shwazye.  He just came out with a solo album under his real name “Aaron Smith”.  It’s called Love Stoned and you can get it completely free online.  The album is pretty killer even if it’s a little California for my tastes. That hasn’t stopped me from listening to it a bunch.  I met Shwazye at Sundance a few years ago because we have the same watch.  Dude is always fun to hang out with.  You should read this story about the time I went to Beatrice with him. Crazy night.  Anyway, check out his video for “Said It All Before” right now.

And lastly, this video is not new but clearly very important. As you probably are sick of hearing about by now, my friend Ross Harman died last Monday. His memorial service is this Sunday so tomorrow I am going out of town for it. I will be back Monday or Tuesday. I miss the kid so fucking much but I hope that once I properly grieve with friends and family I can start to move on and get back to my life. Anyway, this is Ross’ band The Gaskets’s video for a song called “Eiffel Tower. It was directed by our friend Grier Dill. It got accepted into the SXSW Film Fest and stars yours truly as the Hitleresque villain Hell bent on destroying pop music. I hope you like it, it’s pretty fucking amazing. And remember all The Gaskets music is available completely free now on TheGaskets.com.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 3)

In what is now becoming a reoccurring feature on this site we are going to take a look a three new music videos made by friends of mine.  We open with Trouble & Bass’ own Drop The Lime’s new video Sex Sax.  It is clearly the most professional of the three, it’s shot all over my hood in South Williamsburg,  and it kinda happens to be hilarious.  It might not be quite as hilarious as “Voodoozela” the first video from the Cobra Krames & Dactel collab, The New York Dutch Masters. The song is an ode to the 2010 World Cup ruining Vuvuzela. Lastly one of my best friends, Michael Kristoph sent me the first video he has ever edited, which is a make shift video of his band Shells playing live in a dive bar in Texas. The song is called Tulsa and while pretty far away from the DTL and NYDM songs above it will have you jamming the fuck out to their roots rock.  Enjoy these videos….

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 2)

A few weeks ago I dropped some of my friends new music videos on you in a lovely post such as this one.  Today I got three new videos from bands that feature members that I love. I already Tumbled about some of these and I mentioned two of them on this blog, but here they are in living color.

First up is the Hussle Club video for “Good Morning Midnight”.  I have Tumbld about this and I might have linked to it when I blogged about their release party for it.  Second up was also released that at that party but it was not online yet. But the Death Set’s video for “Far Weathered Friends” is online now. And you need to love it. And lastly we have another video I Tumbld, “WTF You Doing In My Mouth?” by the lovely and hilarious Tayisha Busay.  I feel like you need to see them vomit glitter right away.

Anyway, I got things to accomplish. Go watch these videos for the rest of your night, or at least until you find something better to do…
