2015 LA Art Book Fair

If you know me at all you would probably agree that I am not the most exuberant of humans. I tend to be monotonous and often pessimistic. I live a pretty great life and while I appreciate it, there are few things that really bring me joy. If you were to ask me what makes me the most happy in life I would immediately answer the Miami Dolphins winning a game, but that happens pretty rarely. My second answer would be when I open the first box of something I have created.

When I was 15 I started a magazine and a record label and assembling that first box of records was one of the greatest moments of my life. Since then I have made all manor of media and merch and it always brings me great pleasure. Recently I have produced four photo books/zines/albums and I brought them all to the LA Art Book Fair and it was the best thing to happen in ages despite spending the previous week photographing naked porn stars.

I have been to the NY Art Book Fair a bunch of times and it’s always great but thanks to PaperWork NYC this was the first time I have ever sold anything at an art book fair. I had copies of my new book Dinner With Igor, the zine Food Tattoos, my expensive Vegas photo album and the special Fuck LA zine and print I made just for the fair.

I actually sold a ton of stuff. I got back less than 10 Dinner With Igor’s and I had Dana DeArmond sign five of those. I got back about 15 of the 50 Fuck LA’s that I made and I had April O’Neil sign five of those. I even sold one of the Vegas albums even though I mostly brought them for display. I have sold more than 10 of them but they have all been to fans of my work, not just people who picked it up randomly at the book fair. I got a ton of Food Tattoos back but I brought a ton of them too but still I think I have less than 100 of the 300 I originally printed. All good news.

Aside from selling stuff I also bought a ton of stuff and met a few of my favorite artists. I bought Ed and Deanna Templeton’s out of print zine collection and I finally got to meet Ed. I ran into Tony Stamolis who I love as an artist and have been friends with via the internet for years. He loved Fuck LA so I traded him one for a print which actually came in the mail today. I met Tom Neely of Henry and Glenn Forever fame and got him to sign a copy of the first book. I also got to meet Bill Daniel an old punk rock photographer who I have bought several photos from over the years (including photos of Henry Rollins & Glenn Danzig oddly enough) and got a photo he shot of Glen E. Friedman who I also own a photo (and many books) by. I probably spent another $200 on top of that so I probably didn’t make quite as much money as I could have, but I have no complaints. Pretty epic weekend.

I took a handful of black and white photos and a few snapshots at the book fair and a few at the Love//War show. I figured they made sense together as a small 35mm gallery you guys might enjoy.

And click here to see my recently updated Etsy store featuring all my books, zines and other photography items perfect for Valentines Day or Presidents Day or some other holiday that you could justify spending money on my arts.

Dinner With Igor Release Party – 1.8.15

Despite it being 16 degrees out the book release party for Dinner With Igor and Food Tattoos was pretty fucking awesome:  Free booze, cheap tattoos, cupcakes with my face on them and an appropriate amount of nudity. When I am throwing a party I tend to take significantly worse photos but I still took some and you should look at them.

It was the opening night of Prince Terrence and Haruka Salt’s new party Club 81 at the Woods and the first few hours were reserved for my book parties. I had a few cute girls selling books (Thanks!) and took some mildly dirty photos of them in the bathroom which is always nice to get back to my roots and all. I had the super babe Ashley Holt make cupcakes with photos from the book on them so people were eating my face all night. And then of course we had the food tattoos!

You guys should go get tattooed by Chris Johnson at Venus Body Works in the Lower East Side and Rukus at Black Square Tattoo in Williamsburg Brooklyn because those dudes killed it with the $40 food tattoos all night. Chris started the night of with a sushi tattoo near this cute girls vagina so I knew the party was going to be good right away. Rukus ended the night by tattooing a terrifying anthropomorphic sandwich on my leg. It was a blast. Go hunt those dudes down cause they killed it. Tell em I sent you and you might get a hand job out of the deal.

Huge thanks to Terry, Haruka and the Woods for making this party happen and Tullamore Dew for the free booze. Obviously huge thanks to the girls selling my book for almost nothing. Thanks to the tattoo artists for tattooing in a bar despite good common sense. Thanks to Inked, Vice, Village Voice, Flavorpill and Shaw Promotions for getting the word out about this madness. Thanks to Ashley Holt for the most Instagrammed cupcakes ever and essentially making them for a free radish tattoo. And of course thanks to all my friends and fans that came out and bought the book.  You guys rule.

Now go to my etsy store and buy a book or two from me!!

And then you can click here to see the NSFW and delicious photos from the Dinner With Igor book release party!

Food Tattoos

If you don’t know by now that I am having a release party for my new book Dinner With Igor you probably aren’t looking at my website which would mean you can’t possibly be reading this sentence. But I will remind you again anyway. Dinner With Igor comes out tonight at 10pm at the Woods in Brooklyn.

But you know what else comes out tonight? Food Tattoos! Food Tattoos is my slightly less hyped zine that is hopefully the first in many full color zines. I am really happy with how it turned out and I have done a tiny bit of press for it this week.

Inked Magazine did a short interview with me about it the other day and Vice Magazine ran a gallery of photos from the zine.  The best part of those articles is that strangers keep Tweeting me their food tattoos which I love since I love food tattoos.

Come get your own food tattoos tonight! $40 for any tattoo on this flash sheet by Chris Johnson or this flash sheet by Rukus. Make sure to show up early cause I have a feeling there are going to be a bunch of people wanting cheap, rad tattoos. I know I am gonna try and get one if I have time…

Here are a couple more write ups about the event:  Village VoiceFlavorpillShaw Promotions

I hope to see a bunch of you at the event and take your picture. If you have a food tattoo bring it so I can take your photo. Perhaps there will be a second issue!

Now here are the links to buy books: Dinner With IgorFood TattoosDinner With Igor/Food Tattoos set

Lastly, here is a big gallery of 35mm food tattoo photos. I put this together for the Vice gallery but I didn’t send all of them so this gallery has everything that ran on Vice plus a bunch more. But not all the ones in Food Tattoos… You need to buy a zine for that!

Dinner With Igor Release Party!

Dinner With Igor officially comes out on Thursday! The book, 7 years in the making, of nothing but photos of people eating is a reality. I somehow raised nearly $6000 on Kickstarter and with that money I was able to make the book bigger and better, create a SECOND (although much smaller) publication called Food Tattoos AND I was able to throw this sweet party you are about to read about.

The Dinner With Igor and Food Tattoos release party is happening this Thursday at The Woods in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It starts at 10 and technically goes until 1am but the party will continue until 4am. It cost $5 unless you donated to the Kickstarter or are in the book. The Kickstarter peoples are already on the guest list but if I told you that you are in the book and you want to come let me know and I will put you on the list.

We are doing $40 food tattoos! Come early to get tattooed. I have a feeling there will be a line. Plus there is an open bar from 10-11 so getting there early is a sound investment.

I got Cap Chris Johnson from Venus Body Arts and Rukus from Black Square Tattoo there from 10pm – 1am although they might go later if you guys are tipping them well. They will also be doing $20 Driven By Boredom tattoos!

Now a food party wouldn’t be complete without food so we have food supplied by Landhaus and free cupcakes from the super sexy Ashley Holt who won Next Great Baker season 3. I am both a huge fan of Ashley and reality shows about food so I was psyched that she won. And now she will be giving you cupcakes with my photos on them so that is really important.

This party is actually the launch of Prince Terrence and Haruka Salt’s new weekly Downtown 81 themed party Club 81. So they will be DJing during my half of the party and then they will be keeping the party going until 4. There’s another late night after party and I will be there all night taking photos so stick around!

I feel like that is all the info I can offer and you probably won’t read all this anyway so let’s just get to the flyer and Chris’ lovely flash sheet. Remember any of these tattoos are just $40!

Oh and if you can’t make the party you can get both books here!

Book Updates, Food Tattoos & Art Criticism

I got the copies of my new book Dinner With Igor on Friday. They were supposed to come today so that was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately there was a small print error which and I had to get the books reprinted. Fortunately my printer MGX Copy was great about it and put a rush order on the reprint and the books will be in my hands on Thursday.

On top of that, I will also be getting my 36 page zine “Food Tattoos” from MGX the same day. I am pretty excited about both projects and I can’t wait until you get your hands on them. If you were one of my Kickstarter backers your books will ship Friday, Saturday Monday and Tuesday (hopefully I will get them all done by Tuesday)!

Because of the holidays I am pushing my book release party to January but you can still preorder both Dinner With Igor and Food Tattoos at my Etsy store!

You can get signed versions of them both at a discount if you click right here!

Lastly, I should mention that I am giving a 10 minute talk about the books and some other projects on Wednesday as part of the monthly Bushwick Art Crit Group session. I truly hate talking about my work especially around actual fine artists, but for some reason I agreed to do it, so it should be interesting at the very least. Plus Wizard Skull is talking right after me and that guy spends his days ruining your childhood and that’s worth the price of admission alone (it’s free). So if anyone is bored in Brooklyn on Wednesday come hang out!

Thanksgiving Leftovers

One year ago on Thanksgiving I announced the series of food books I wanted to do. The first of them, Dinner With Igor, is about to come out! I got the book proof in the mail yesterday and after a few tiny changes it should finally go to print tomorrow! That means I will get the book by mid-December and I will be shipping books out in time for Christmas!

The only problem is that I don’t have time to plan a proper book release party. I could rush it and just throw something together (okay, I still might) but in all likelihood the release party won’t be until January. All the Kickstarter backers will get Dinner With Igor by Christmas, but no one else will and that will clearly make everyone very sad.

But in the spirit of the bullshit non-holiday that is Black Friday, I am going to offer 10 signed books for sale as a pre-order and they are also $5 off the normal price because I am a god damned saint.

So, get a pre-order copy of Dinner With Igor before they are sold out! And check out the incredibly sexy cover!

The Dinner With Igor Kickstarter Is Ending

I wanted to do one final post about the Dinner With Igor Kickstarter before it ends! I have been bugging people for the last four weeks about this thing but it ends tomorrow so you can refollow me on all the social networks that I have been harassing you on.

Yesterday Vice ran an article about the project and a few hours later I had hit $4000. That’s four times the original goal I set! That’s not to say I don’t need more of your money… every thing I raise helps make this book better and goes towards the next book (juggalos perhaps!?) So I figured I would give you guys one more pitch and try to explain why you should donate to my Kickstarter now instead of waiting until the book comes out.

1) If you donate now the book is cheaper. You can get a book for $20 now, plus free US shipping. That will save you about $10 rather than buying it later.

2) You will 100% get a copy of the book. I think I am only going to make 200 of these things and my last book sold out in a month. I saved five copies of that book for the Kickstarter and put them for sale at $75 and they sold out in a day.

3) You will get free stuff! Everyone who buys a book via Kickstarter gets a free signed 5″x7″ print, a post card AND a very awesome surprise that I will announce once it’s in my hand.

So I guess that’s all I got. Pretty excited about moving forward on this project. Thanks to everyone who donated!

Dinner With Igor Returns

I haven’t updated Dinner With Igor in ages and I think now is a perfect time. I just finished redoing my entire apartment and I haven’t been shooting much. Tomorrow I am headed to Puerto Rico for a week and I don’t have much time to update the site. Fortunately I have like 125 new photos of people eating with me to give to you guys! Every time I eat with someone I take a 35mm picture of them and luckily I eat with a lot of interesting (and pretty) people and these photos have become pretty popular. Vice Magazine ran some of my “Dinner With Porn Stars” photos and pretty soon I am going to be doing a zine collaboration with some of these photos with Hamburger Eyes. So enjoy these new photos and I am going to try to edit some old naked girl photos that I can auto post while I am in Puerto Rico. See you guys soon…

More Dinner With Igor

I keep taking 35mm snap shots of everyone I eat with. If you recall I posted this massive gallery of photos of people eating a while back and today I add another 32 exciting shots to the gallery. Over the last few months I have been traveling a lot so I have dinner pictures in such exotic locations as Miami, New Orleans, Austin and Chicago! Lots of good food, interesting people and cute girls.

My favorite spot was Lambert’s in Austin with the Black Lips and Skerrit Bwoy. I had hot dogs on halloween with Girl Talk and his posse and late night dinner with zombie babes. There may or may not be some shots of cute girls I went on romantic and life changing dates with and there is a shot of a man named Shark Toof devouring a sandwich like a human shark hybrid. There is even a photo of dinner with actual juggalos. I know you missed them. All and all it is a delicious good time and a perfect post for a lazy Sunday evening.

See you guys tomorrow with some more 35mm goodness from my Miami trip…

Click here to see an absurd number of 35mm snap shots of people eating with me including the 32 new ones I added today.
