Parties & Polaroids

Just a quick update today before I run out to watch more hockey. Playoffs are fucking exhausting. I mostly wanted to make sure I let you know about the party I am hosting on Thursday. It’s been a long time since I hosted a party that I didn’t actually throw but my buddy Carol Sharks asked me to do it and I couldn’t say no.

Her party Baewatch is joining forces with an LA party called Candy to form some sort of Voltronesque super party at Sway (305 Spring St). By the way, I can’t tell if Baewatch is the worst name for a party ever or a really good one. Come to the party and let me know how you feel about it. It’s all lady DJs and the other host is my home girl Pebbles so it’s gonna be me and a bunch of ladies and one of the ladies boyfriends who is providing candy which seems insane but I do tattoos at parties so I guess it makes more sense than that.

I haven’t decided if I am taking photos or not but I will at least be brining my camera so if you really feel like showing me your boobs or balls or something I can at least hook you up with a quick snap or two. I mean that’s just the kinda guy I am.

On a totally different topic I uploaded a bunch of naked Polaroids to the Driven By Boredom Etsy store. Well, technically they are Fuji Instax Wide but you get the idea. I got shots of  Krysa Kaos, Ashlee Graham and polaroids of Ash Hollywood and Sasha Pain together. Two babes in one!

All the Polaroids are signed by the girls and myself and are numbered out of five. First come first served! Get on it!

If you want to see more of my naked Polaroids you can do so over on the Girls of DBB. Just saying.

See you guys tomorrow?

Headed Back To SXSW

Tomorrow I am skipping town for the next two weeks. Headed to my 12th straight SXSW. Because I won’t be able to update like I would normally I am moving everything over to the magical Driven By Boredom Road Trip Blog for daily updates while I am gone. So if you get this and it’s any time between now and the 23rd of March I you should click over there!

For those in Austin or just interested in my life for some weird reason I will be shooting SXSW Film stuff for the Village Voice/ LA Weekly media empire as part of my yearly SXSW Film Portraits. I start Friday on that stuff and go until Monday. On Tuesday I am working the premiere and after party for the new Robert Duvall directed film Wild Horses which should be a lot of fun.

Then South By Southwest Music starts and I am working the art gallery of original Sailor Jerry flash that is part of the official SXSW program (flyer below). Wednesday through Saturday night I am working some private parties that I can’t technically talk about but if we are friends and you want to go hit me up. During the day during SXSW Music I am freelancing for Rolling Stone and Noisey so hopefully I will find some cool stuff for them too.

Should be a fun trip and hopefully I will take an insane amount awesome photos.

Now click here to visit the Road Trip Blog while I am at SXSW!

Food Tattoos

If you don’t know by now that I am having a release party for my new book Dinner With Igor you probably aren’t looking at my website which would mean you can’t possibly be reading this sentence. But I will remind you again anyway. Dinner With Igor comes out tonight at 10pm at the Woods in Brooklyn.

But you know what else comes out tonight? Food Tattoos! Food Tattoos is my slightly less hyped zine that is hopefully the first in many full color zines. I am really happy with how it turned out and I have done a tiny bit of press for it this week.

Inked Magazine did a short interview with me about it the other day and Vice Magazine ran a gallery of photos from the zine.  The best part of those articles is that strangers keep Tweeting me their food tattoos which I love since I love food tattoos.

Come get your own food tattoos tonight! $40 for any tattoo on this flash sheet by Chris Johnson or this flash sheet by Rukus. Make sure to show up early cause I have a feeling there are going to be a bunch of people wanting cheap, rad tattoos. I know I am gonna try and get one if I have time…

Here are a couple more write ups about the event:  Village VoiceFlavorpillShaw Promotions

I hope to see a bunch of you at the event and take your picture. If you have a food tattoo bring it so I can take your photo. Perhaps there will be a second issue!

Now here are the links to buy books: Dinner With IgorFood TattoosDinner With Igor/Food Tattoos set

Lastly, here is a big gallery of 35mm food tattoo photos. I put this together for the Vice gallery but I didn’t send all of them so this gallery has everything that ran on Vice plus a bunch more. But not all the ones in Food Tattoos… You need to buy a zine for that!

Dinner With Igor Release Party!

Dinner With Igor officially comes out on Thursday! The book, 7 years in the making, of nothing but photos of people eating is a reality. I somehow raised nearly $6000 on Kickstarter and with that money I was able to make the book bigger and better, create a SECOND (although much smaller) publication called Food Tattoos AND I was able to throw this sweet party you are about to read about.

The Dinner With Igor and Food Tattoos release party is happening this Thursday at The Woods in Williamsburg Brooklyn. It starts at 10 and technically goes until 1am but the party will continue until 4am. It cost $5 unless you donated to the Kickstarter or are in the book. The Kickstarter peoples are already on the guest list but if I told you that you are in the book and you want to come let me know and I will put you on the list.

We are doing $40 food tattoos! Come early to get tattooed. I have a feeling there will be a line. Plus there is an open bar from 10-11 so getting there early is a sound investment.

I got Cap Chris Johnson from Venus Body Arts and Rukus from Black Square Tattoo there from 10pm – 1am although they might go later if you guys are tipping them well. They will also be doing $20 Driven By Boredom tattoos!

Now a food party wouldn’t be complete without food so we have food supplied by Landhaus and free cupcakes from the super sexy Ashley Holt who won Next Great Baker season 3. I am both a huge fan of Ashley and reality shows about food so I was psyched that she won. And now she will be giving you cupcakes with my photos on them so that is really important.

This party is actually the launch of Prince Terrence and Haruka Salt’s new weekly Downtown 81 themed party Club 81. So they will be DJing during my half of the party and then they will be keeping the party going until 4. There’s another late night after party and I will be there all night taking photos so stick around!

I feel like that is all the info I can offer and you probably won’t read all this anyway so let’s just get to the flyer and Chris’ lovely flash sheet. Remember any of these tattoos are just $40!

Oh and if you can’t make the party you can get both books here!

Book Updates, Food Tattoos & Art Criticism

I got the copies of my new book Dinner With Igor on Friday. They were supposed to come today so that was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately there was a small print error which and I had to get the books reprinted. Fortunately my printer MGX Copy was great about it and put a rush order on the reprint and the books will be in my hands on Thursday.

On top of that, I will also be getting my 36 page zine “Food Tattoos” from MGX the same day. I am pretty excited about both projects and I can’t wait until you get your hands on them. If you were one of my Kickstarter backers your books will ship Friday, Saturday Monday and Tuesday (hopefully I will get them all done by Tuesday)!

Because of the holidays I am pushing my book release party to January but you can still preorder both Dinner With Igor and Food Tattoos at my Etsy store!

You can get signed versions of them both at a discount if you click right here!

Lastly, I should mention that I am giving a 10 minute talk about the books and some other projects on Wednesday as part of the monthly Bushwick Art Crit Group session. I truly hate talking about my work especially around actual fine artists, but for some reason I agreed to do it, so it should be interesting at the very least. Plus Wizard Skull is talking right after me and that guy spends his days ruining your childhood and that’s worth the price of admission alone (it’s free). So if anyone is bored in Brooklyn on Wednesday come hang out!

I Have No Idea What’s Going On

Hey guys. I meant to update yesterday telling you all about the Superchief art show at Culturefix but I have been on a road trip for no reason and I was staying at a random casino in Southern Indiana and I could not even begin to explain why. But anyway, I had two big 20″x30″ photos in the show, as seen below, that you could probably still go look at if you happened to live in NYC and wanted to go see them. Culturefix is a bar too so you could get drunk while looking at them and then get so drunk you buy them. Good plan.

Okay, so yeah I am on this random road trip and right now it’s 1:45am I am in Bowling Green, Kentucky which is something I never thought I would say but there is a Corvette museum here and while normally I wouldn’t care, they had a sink hole open below the museum and I want to see it before they fill in the hole. Seriously, it’s just a giant hole in the middle of a museum. I am gonna check it out tomorrow morning and then from there head to Nashville and then the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Alabama, then hit Atlanta and hang out with a Coathanger or two and then try to make it all the way to South Carolina. Five states in one day isn’t bad. I should be back in NYC sometime Sunday and then I head to the Gathering of the Juggalos on Tuesday. Yup, it’s that time again.

In preparation for Juggalos I have some naked juggalette photos I still need to get up from last year. It’s a long story and I will share that with you Monday (or perhaps from my hotel Tuesday night). I also have some lovely Shay Laren nudes that are ready to go but for a reason I can’t quite explain at this moment I can’t quite post them yet.

Also, today I took some insane photos at the Creation Museum and I can’t wait to share those with everyone but I can’t real with that until I get back but I probably won’t actually have time to deal with that until I get back from the Gathering so just be on the look out.

Long story short, I have no idea what’s going on, but I have a lot of stuff happening and a lot of stuff ready to go up but that won’t actually go up quite yet. In conclusion below are the two photos I have int he Supercheif show, one photo of a juggalette, one photo of  Shay Laren and one from the Creation Museum. Just to make everything weirder I am going to post the photos out of order so you are going to have to use your deductive reasoning skills to figure out what is happening right now. The answer mostly involves lack of sleep mixed with sleeping pills.  See you bastards soon.

Things! And Stuff!!

First of all, happy Mother’s Day! Check out my mom at her wedding in 1978!

Do to one of my best friends weddings and a strange series of coincidences and cancelations I haven’t touched my digital camera in weeks. I couldn’t get into the (first day of the) NFL Draft and I even had a dentist appointment postponed. It’s been a weird month but it’s been a great excuse to start getting my life together. I am in NYC until the end of this month so I am going to use these three weeks to hopefully get a TON of work done.

I have two big projects that I am going to take on while I am in town. I am working on a series of food books as I mentioned way back in November. Finally I am going to really get my shit together. I have a pretty good edit and a great idea how I am going to do it. Hopefully by June I will have at least a layout done.

The second big project is building a damn portfolio site. Not sure why I don’t have one or why you would even care, but hopefully me organizing thousands of photos will end up being good for you somehow. Moving on.

Back in the day on Driven By Boredom I used to post links to websites I thought were cool and things like that. I don’t really do it anymore, but here is one link you should really check out: a group of people are trying to create a road out of solar panels. It’s an amazing project that could completely change the world as we know it. It only took 35 years to build the interstate highway system. If this road actually works there’s no reason we couldn’t see a complete end to gas powered cars in our lifetime. Go donate some money now.

In other news my Tumblr just hit 10,000 followers. It was my first social network to hit 10k followers and it features a ton of my 35mm work and just random shots from my daily life. Check it out if you haven’t already. My Instagram would have hit 10k if it hadn’t been deleted the first time. Go follow my new one already…

Hmm… What else? Oh! My web series Road Strip has a new episode coming out this week. There are a bunch of good ones coming up so catch up on the whole series already! Very not safe for work!

Last bit of news is that NYC’s own Superchief just opened an art space in Los Angeles and they are having a big show on Thursday for the grand opening. I have at least one photo in it (I gave them a bunch of stuff to choose from) and a bunch of artists I love are in it as well. My buddies (and amazing photographers) Tod Seelie and Brock Fetch are two of the featured artists and other people I dig like Lee Trice, Eddy Segal and Prettypuke are in it as well. So if you are in LA go to the opening on Thursday. If you can’t make it the show will be up until the end of July. Hopefully I will be able to make it out there to see it myself! Really psyched to be in this show!

So check out the flyer for the show and I will be back Tuesday with some photos you do not want to miss…

Driven By Boredom 13th Anniversary Party!

This web site is turning 13! I cannot believe this fun thing I started in my college dorm room in 2013 has somehow become my job. Since 13 is such a punk rock number I decided I needed to throw a party! It should be a wild time.

Firstly, it is at The Flat in Williamsburg on March 1st from 6pm-11pm. It’s an early show and there will be happy hour prices until 9pm so you can use DBB’s website as a reason to get drunk before whatever else you are doing on Saturday night.

Secondly, it’s going to get weird. I have Tim Acupunx doing free Driven By Boredom tattoos! Seriously! I know you want to tell you friends you got tattooed in a bar right? Plus I am doing naked photo shoots live at the bar. I feel like it’s mostly going to be hot tattooed girls, but if you or your grandpa want want to get naked and pose for photos I am not going to stop you! Let’s ruin lives.

Lastly, I got Roofeeo, Prince Terrence and RekLES DJing. It’s a great line up of DJ’s that have spanned my entire New York history. I have known RekLES nearly the entire time I have lived in NYC and I have photographed so many different parties he’s thrown up to his wildly successful Friday night Girls & Boys party at Webster Hall. I met Prince Terry a few years into my NYC life when he started DJing one of my favorite parties ever, High Voltage, when it moved to Annex. Since then he’s become great friend and I went to the god damned Kentucky Derby with him and slept on his grandfather’s couch. I met Roofeeo a few years ago when he was the drummer of the Death Set. Since then he’s started drumming for TV On The Radio and DJing for comedian Hannibal Burress. I do a lot of events with him for Sailor Jerry too. All three of them are great DJs.

In conclusion there will be good music, tattoos, naked people and cheap booze. What more do you need? Oh, you need a really amazing flyer? Done. Click it for the Facebook invite.

Goings On!

Here is one of those really exciting posts of mine where I update you with some news that you don’t care about and then throw some half assed “content’ at the end. It’s exiting I know, but I like writing weird posts about why I am not updating my site enough. Good times!

So yeah, this week is super crazy for me. On Wednesday I had a really exciting dental appointment where instead of just getting a filling like I thought, the dentist realized it was worse than he thought and I might have to get a root canal! So he just packed my tooth up with some temporary filling and is hopeful that in two or three months he can try again. Whatever the case it hurts like hell now whenever I chew.

Twenty four hours later I got the last of three tattoo appointments to finish up my half sleeve. While it was nice and painful I am super psyched about it. I just had this empty bicep area for years and I could never think what to get that would be meaningful enough to put there. I decided to go the exact opposite route and just get some really bad ass artwork. I hit up my friend Marisa from Needles & Sins and she recommended a few people and I knew immediately that I wanted Grez over at Kings Ave to do it. I booked my appointment in April for late October and three sessions and six weeks later I now have by far my favorite (and most expensive!) tattoo. I asked him to do a woman’s head and to fill space but other than that it was up to him. He killed it. She’s so bad ass. This photo doesn’t do it justice. Thanks Grez!

Tattoo By Grez

So yeah, after a very painful two days I am now in the midst of preproduction for the biggest photo gig of my life. A cigarette company in Switzerland wanted to use a NYC party picture style look for their add campaign and pretty much wants to copy a few of my party photos. Theoretically that would be really easy to do, but casting and location scouting are a bit out of my league so I reached out to a friend to produce it and suddenly this shoot is this massive undertaking that involves like 20 people a day for three days. I am still gonna shoot this thing with an on camera flash but it’s become insanely stressful and also pretty damn exciting. I’ve never shot anything that might end up a billboard!

On top of this crazy shoot on Sunday I am working this really fun party for Sailor Jerry and my buddy Oliver Peck. He has a Ramones cover band called the Romonahs and they kinda rule. He is doing a rock and roll karaoke thing as well and as much as I hate karaoke his parties are a really good time. The last one I shot was really fun and I am pretty excited for this one. There is a 90% I will hurt myself performing some punk song as well. So come out for that on Sunday at Arlene’s Grocery.

Good Luck Karaoke

I have also been kept really busy with Miami Dolphins related stuff recently. After our #MetLifeTakeover our club has blown up a little and have been on calls with the Dolphins and trying to organize more stuff and all sorts of things that have taken up a ton of my time. Which rules but  is quite distracting to my real life. We did raise a TON of money for charity and were able do some good for two of our crew who were injured in the Metro North train crash. We filmed a video of the whole thing which I will probably post next week but in the mean time here is a video of the event care of the Miami Dolphins website.

Anyway, this week is crazy and for some reason I felt like I needed to do a post about it. Aside from the Ramonahs party pix I hope to have two updates ready to go for next week so that once I finish this monster photo gig I can go on a mini staycation. My exgirlfriend is coming to visit and bringing her dog so I am just gonna do cute shit with them for five days and try not to do any real work other than hitting send on those posts. Good times.

And finally, for no particular reason, I leave you with this insane video. Enjoy.
