MashUp! Art Show Friday

So tomorrow I have 4 pieces in a mixed medium art show at the McKibben lofts.   I am pretty much just a photographer so mixed media is not my bag, but I had fun at Lowbrow Society For the Arts last show so I had to come up with something.  I reached out to old school NYC graffiti legend DAZE and convinced him to paint on some of my photos. I still haven’t seen what they look like but I am pretty excited.  He said they came out well.  They are 4 14″x20″ prints of naked girls with food.  That’s pretty much all I can tell you.  You will have to come out to see them. The art is just from 7 1o 11 and then we take the stuff off the wall and bands play and things.  There should be some cool stuff and some debauchery.  It is basically a house party so anything goes…  Hope to see you out…

PS. If you are coming, hit the Retweet button and spread the word…

Into The Light…

I got an email from my dad today about my website.  Now while I hate the idea that my dad reads this site (Dad, if you are reading this, please close your browser window and go back to work, my kids college education is not going to pay for itself.) his email brings up up something I wanted to talk about again.  His email was in reference to this post, where I was talking about how I wanted to shoot some day time photos and less night life stuff.  He told me he was glad to see me “moving into the light”.  I am not sure I want to exactly move into the light so to speak, but I do want to do more editorial and portrait work, so I just wanted to bring it up again.  If anyone has any ideas let me know. If any stylists or art directors or anyone wants to do some portfolio building stuff together let me know.  I just need a reason to leave my apartment before midnight.

Anyway, I think the primary point of this post is to show you a shot or two from the mini shoot I did with Teddy Blanks.  He needed a photo for his Electronic Press kit.  Clearly not the greatest photo shoot ever, as we shot it in less than 10 minutes due to time constraints, but I just wanted to show you guys something other than the standard party pics.  Enjoy.

Auto-Tune The News just keeps getting better. John Boehner & Michelle Bachmann may be hate filled lunatics, but they sing like fucking angels.

This is one of the last Onion News Network episodes my brother is ever going to work on. He is moving on to new and exciting career opportunities. He has been with the ONN for their entire existence and this is one of their best yet.

These people might be fast, but they aren’t easy.

Clearly we can’t do a viral video update with out some cute animal doing something only a person would do!! Oh, she’s sooo like people!

I guess we can’t do a viral video update without a flash mob either… or a Michael Jackson reference… I know! Let’s kill two birds with one stone!

Lastly, I really think this video is going to be shown in classrooms 25 years from now. While this is sort of stupid and silly, it is completely showing the full potential of Web 2.0 to make collaborative web based art.

Site Touch Up

Thanks to my amazing friend and part time webmaster Thadd Williams DBB has gotten a very minor touch up to make it slightly more social networkable…

There are now some little buttons below each post where you can send the post to Digg or Facebook or Stumble Upon or what have you.  Whatever the kids are doing these days… I used to have a button that just said Share This and you could do similar things, but I think these little buttons work better.

Secondly, we added the Retweet buttons at the beginning of each post.  Now you can press the Retweet button and this post will automatically be sent to your Twitter.  I hope people will use this to show friends the party they were at last night, or to promote whatever event they hired me to shoot.  God willing when I do a real design update all the gallery pages will have a similar button so you can easily Tweet and/or Facebook your individual pictures.

Speaking of Twitter, there is now a feed of my latest three Tweets.  Now you can see what sort of bullshit I am getting into without even owning a smart phone.  The installation actually fucked up my side bar a little bit, but we are working to fix that. Hopefully that will be taken care of ASAP.  My guess is it is some sort of CSS issue, but I don’t even know what CSS stands for, so I think I will leave that up to Thadd.

Lastly, I think we fixed the problem with my RSS feed in Google Reader.  If you don’t use Google Reader or you don’t even know what an RSS feed is, please ignore this.  If you do use Google Reader, let me know if things are working better.  In fact, if anyone sees anything wrong with this site please let me know.

I just talked to some people about doing a more major touch up on the site, so hopefully that will be happening sometime in the next 20 months. I want to redo the side bar, add more links finally, add a place for minor site updates and a place where you can see just the photo updates without having to scroll through my ramblings.  I am also considering measures to make this site load a bit faster.  Let me know if you have problems with the site speed generally.  Also, really, any advice on how to make this page easier to use for you please let me know.

Thanks a bunch. Oh, and just for contents sake, I have been listening to the Dramatics while I have been working on this site.  Their song Shake It Well might be the best song I have ever heard.  Listen to it while you browse this site and everything will look that much nicer.

Chief Is Getting High

So yeah. I invented the future of music. You can thank me later. It is called “PopHouse”. It is just house music with inappropriate pop vocals all over it. I convinced Cobra Krames to give me a beat he was working on for me to give to Teddy Blanks. Teddy wrote some vocals and sent it back and after a few back and forths they had something that we liked so much that Krames got HallCall, HeartMe! and DJ Wool to do some sick remixes for an iTunes/Amazon release. Well that release is out now and you need to check it out. Below I have posted this little video Krames shot on a train so we could have something to post since we don’t want to give out the Mp3 release out for free. Also as a bonus Krames did a Mash-up of Chief Is Getting High vs. Party Works by Donnis.

PS. If any DJ’s wanna get on this PopHouse tip, let’s make it happen. This is clearly the future of music, and I want to be mentioned on the wikipedia page.

Wet Hot Brooklyn Summer Part 2 – 7.10.09

So most of the night consisted of people rocking the fuck out. Ray Contour was promoting the night and started shit off. After getting the crowd going pretty nuts he let HeartsRevolution take over. They killed it per usual and as soon as they got off Anton Glamb and Star City took over while Lo from Hearts rode Star City to start their set. Shit just went bananas after that. Mics were passed around and Memberz Only took care of shit with a bunch of people grabbing the mic and doing guest spots. Ninjasonik sort of oversaw the whole thing and kept the crowd hyped. After that madness my girl Jane Bang performed her perverse lesbian rap stylings live for the first time. She brought all the cute girls on stage with her including her two sick back up dancers and they put on a fucking show. The night was a lot of fun and I ended up getting home at like 7am. Good fucking times.

Once again, here are all the photos from the night and below are all my favorite performance shots.

Wet Hot Brooklyn Summer Part 1 – 7.10.09

So I am breaking this update up into two sections because I took so many photos.  Both posts, however, are going to link to the exact same gallery.  I just wanted to post more photos because I think there are a lot of nice ones.

So last night there was a pretty fun jam at Public Assembly and I took some pictures because that is what I tend to do.  There were a ton of musicians that preformed but I am going to get to that in the next update which will be up about 15 minutes after this one.  So in the mean time, click here and see all the photos from the night and then check below to see my favorite crowd shots from the exciting evening.

Tonight We Ride – 7.9.09

I wish someone had told me that Santos Party House was so close to the J Train.  For some reason every time I have been there I have dropped money for cab fare. I guess it is my own fault.  I just don’t like going out west of Bowery.  SoHo is a frighting place.

Anyway, I went by Santos last night to check out Mean Red’s party Tonight We Ride.  I went to see Drop The Lime and Maluca cause Prince Terrence is playing drums for her. She is pretty worth seeing with or without Terry but it is what it is. I got there pretty late but it was sufficiently popping all night.  I just caught the last minutes of Designer Drugs and spent a good portion of the night talking to a girl about fried chicken, full service massage, religion and the time my uncle tried to beat up my aunt at christmas!  Good times!

That’s all I got, just check out the pictures already.
