This is a collection of some of the band pix I have taken. I photograph bands more than anything else so I have literally thousands of images laying around. None of these are taken from final prints, they are mostly just scans of test prints. So if half of them are green, suck it up. If you are interested in seeing quality prints of any of the B&W images let me know. Click for big.
Donnas:
These are some pix of the Donnas. I don't like the pictures that much, but I am in love with Donna R and I have been down with them since their Super Teem days back when they were like 16 and only had vinyl out.
Casualties:
I took some amazing shots of this band when they had their hair spiked up, however I think my friend Marshall has them all. I'll reprint them eventually for the page. Here's mediocre a shot I took from the last show at the "Loft" in Baltimore. (update, I found the picture on the right at home and I scanned it just for you kiddies!)
Al Barr:
Al Barr is the lead singer of the Boston based punk band the Dropkick Murphys. Personally I liked them better with their first singer, but Barr is more intense and has cooler tattoos. I had a good picture of DKM with their old singer, but I think I lost it.
Descendents:
These pictures I took at a Warped Tour a few years ago. I regret using color film that day, but I didn't have access to a B & W lab. I did an interview with them as well. Maybe Ill publish that some day... I doubt it.
Crowd:
The crowd at shows has always been secondary in my work. I have been known to take pix of mosh pits and crowd surfing, but I think in the future I am going to concentrate more on the people AT the show other than the show itself. The reality isn't on stage. Its in the crowd.
Nashville Pussy:
This is probably my favorite band to photograph. I have shot them twice (you can tell they are different times by both the location and their change breast size) and both times has made for great pix. What other band rocks hard, has cool tattoos, half naked girls and fire spitters... oh that's right... the Impotent Sea Snakes...
Impotent Sea Snakes:
This band is one of the most bizarre live acts I have ever seen. They opened for the Misfits and I wanted to save my film for the Misfits so I only take a few shots unfortunately. I hope I get to shoot them again. The ironic thing is that I ended up only taking a few boring shots of the Misfits anyway. Oh well..
Motorhead:
Motorhead is probably the most brutal band ever. They rock harder than anyone. Lemmy is like 50 now. I think he's older than my dad. If my dad rocked half as hard as Lemmy did he'd be in Black Sabath. I think they hold the record for loudest band. I have seen them 3 times but only shot them once and when I did they wouldn't let me bring in a "professional" camera, so I shot these on a point and shoot.
H20:
I've seen H20 like 10 times or something. I used to love them till I met them. The first time they told me they'd give me an interview and then left me waiting for them for an hour or something. The second time we did the interview and they were dicks to me the entire time. I probably deserved it. I haven't seen them since then and all the times before I was having to much fun to take pictures, that's a problem I have alot. The truth is the more I like a band the less likely I will be to shoot them.
The Infertil:
The Infertil were friends of mine and one of the bands on a record I produced called 'Raise the Flag'. They are the only band I photographed of those bands. This I regret. How I didn't photograph the Neruotiks and Positive State I'll never know. I think they just all broke up before I knew what was going on. These shots were taken from a show that ended after a brawl. The first picture is the only shot of the brawl. I was too busy kicking one of the guys in the picture to snap shots.
Rancid:
Rancid was the cause of the conflict between H20 and myself. I dissed them in my zine cause they blew me off for an interview after I was promised press passes and an interview to Lalapalooza a few years back. H20 are tight with Rancid and flipped out. After it came out I worked it out with Epitaph and they told me It wasn't Rancid's fault. It was all good. Or so I thought. Rancid played a surprise show in DC a month later, that night at like 2 AM I get a phone call from their drummer bitching me out. I talked to him for an hour or something and hopefully worked shit out. God damn drama. But I have to go on record as saying I dig rancid and I really love their new album.
Reverend Horton Heat:
I love the Rev and I was happy with these shots. In fact the one of the Rev himself I did 11x14 and hand tinted his suit. It was kinda rad and someone offered to buy it at some art show... I passed.
Sick Of It All:
I had back stage passes to see Sick Of It All but I didn't have stage passes, but some how I got on stage for a few songs and got these shots. I interviewed them later. I'm not a huge fan, and I used color film, but I like the arena shots.
US Bombs:
These guys used to be on Comedy Central. One of em was in the The original Suburbia and one of them was a pro skate boarder in the 70's. I mean how cool can you get. They rock pretty hard too.
Other:
Box Car Children: I photographed these guys for a few days at their request but my camera was in the shop so I used my moms old Pentax and I fucked up most of the light meter readings. I got a couple of okay shots, this is the only one I ever printed
Cherry Poppin Daddies: I don't really like this band, but I had a press pass at the Warped Tour so I took a few shots anyway. I like the way this one came out.
Civ: I took a few pix of Civ a few years ago. I have more, but frankly I can't find them. Enlarge to see tattoos!
Specials: I don't particularly like ska. But I had to shoot the Specials. I had a few good shots of them, but I don't like them enough to print them.
