Kaya Lin & Vonka Romanov

The case of the missing photos keeps getting larger. Going through photos from 2015 and so far I have found three unpublished shoots. The first one was a shoot I did with Heather Vahn in an unreasonably dark hotel room. The 35mm stuff I shot was actually really great so I forgot about the incredibly mediocre digital photos we shot. Heather is still really pretty so I figured people might want to see these photos so I threw it up on Girls of Driven By Boredom as an app exclusive set.

The second set I found was a shoot I did with Jenna J. Ross. I actually have no idea how this one got lost. It’s a fun shoot that we shot in some sort of park in LA. She gets fully naked in public so I feel like that’s one I would have wanted to get up, but yet I never did. I edited it already and I will be getting it up sooner rather than later.

The third shoot I lost was the one you are looking at now. I shot Kaya Lin (who was Lea Hart at the time) with her real life girlfriend (at the time) Vonka Romanov for a book submission. They unfortunately didn’t make it in the book but it was months before I found out they didn’t make it and I think between the time I shot these and the time I found out they didn’t make it I just totally forgot I had never published them. Whoops.

I shot these photos in the back of my friend Tod Seelie’s place before he went and moved to LA. Tod is one of my favorite event photographers and you should probably know who he is if you don’t already. I actually have a photo of his hanging on my bedroom wall between a Tim Barber and a Ed Templeton photo. Pretty good company.

The other thing I should mention is that Kaya and I have been talking about shooting again soon and I actually found these photos between texts with her. I texted her about a date to shoot and then I started organizing my 2015 photos and I found these before she even had time to respond. Weird coincidence.

Okay, I’ve rambled enough. Time to look at some photos. Oh, and just to plug Girls of DBB again, this set has been up there for a few day already and there’s a handful of extra photos on there that are slightly more overtly sexual than these cause you know we like to keep it classy on the main page. Right.

Meg Spectre

I met Meg Spectre for the first time when she offered to be part of the photo booth for the release party for my book Instaxxx. My friend Mel was shooting the photo booth and she though Meg would be a great model for it. I was happy to have her because I had seen Mel’s photos of her and she seemed super iconic looking. She looks like someone Warhol would shoot if he was still around.

After the release party, I talked to her about shooting a few times but it kept not happening. Finally we figured it out and I ended up shooting her at my friend Sucklord’s Chinatown art studio. Not only was Sucklord nice enough to let us use his space to shoot, but he’s also happens to be dating Meg and has been teaching her how to make her own toys. In fact Meg just released her first toys, The Spayed Squad, on Saturday.

Also, the same day we shot these photos we did a shoot to test out my new lights that I bought for the press photos I did for Isle of Dogs. We did a quick shoot with the lights and they are available exclusively on Girls of Driven By Boredom. They’ve been up there for a while too so if you had a Girls of DBB account you’d have known all about Meg by now.

Lastly, I felt like I should mention that one of the photos of Meg from the Instaxxx release party is in the International edition of Instaxxx and I still have a box of those left if anyone is interested in getting a copy.

Okay, now go look at these photos of Meg and hopefully there will be even more photos of her soon because we have already talked about shooting again.

Washington Capitals Championship Parade – 6.12.18

Last Thursday the Washington Capitals beat the Vegas Golden Knights to win the first Stanley Cup in team history. It was the first major Championship in my hometown of DC since 1992 and the first championship team that I have rooted for in my life. After celebrating all night at the NYC Caps Crew bar Jojo’s Philosophy in the West Village I started planning my trip to the Capitals parade in DC.

My plan was going to go down with a few people on Monday afternoon, beating rush hour and getting to my parent’s place in Northern VA with plenty of time to sleep, but on Sunday night the Capitals announced that star players Alexander Ovechkin and Braden Holtby were going to be in NYC with the Stanley Cup for the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. I couldn’t believe it. Not only was the Stanley Cup going to be in NYC, but they are going to the show where my friend Seth Herzog works as the warm up comic. Heroically Seth got me backstage where I not only got to check off a major bucket list item and hold the Stanley Cup but I got to meet Holtby and Ovechkin. Ovechkin just happens to be my favorite human of all time.

After Fallon was over I met up with my friend Sam who I have been watching hockey with since 1991 and my friend Justin who is part of the NYC Caps Crew and we drove south and got to my parents house around 2am. After a few hours of sleep we hit the parade. We got to the National Mall around 9am and it was packed with people already. We found a spot near the end of the parade route under a tree which was ideal given that we were going to have to stand there for four hours. When the parade finally started I made my way a bit closer to the street but still was behind a ton of people. I brought my camera just because I felt like I had to, but I didn’t even bring a long lens so my parade photos were pretty pointless. I got a few decent shots, but mostly garbage. I was just happy to be there.

I shot a few more photos of the crowd on the mall, but we were so far from the rally stage and just exhausted so we texted all of our friends and had them meet us in Arlington at the Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill for an after party thrown by Russian Machine Never Breaks. RMNB is probably my favorite sports blog of all time and it was great to finally meet Ian who runs it. A bunch of the NYC Caps Crew made it out too, and I got to hang out with my friend Jamie who with Sam is one of my oldest, closest friends and is another person I’ve been watching Caps games with since childhood. I ran into a ton of people I know from hockey Twitter as well and it was just a really good time.

I decided not to go out after that because I hadn’t slept at all and was pretty exhausted so I came home and edited these photos and crashed, but my Championship week isn’t quite over. Today I am going to get a Stanley Cup tattoo at Jinx Proof tattoos in DC which was the first place I ever got tattooed almost exactly 20 years ago.

It’s been one hell of a week after a lifetime of sports related suffering. I realize many of you can’t possibly imagine why I would care so much about sports but if you are interested in knowing a little bit more about how I felt, I wrote something for the NYC Caps Crew blog about it. Some of it might not make any sense if you aren’t a Caps fan, but I actually started crying while writing it, so it means a lot to me. And if you still don’t care about sports, don’t worry, I will go back to posting parties and nudity ASAP and won’t bug you with any more sports related content until September when football season starts…

Giselle Palmer

Giselle Palmer is pretty amazing. I met her back when she was living in Austin, TX over a year ago. We talked on Twitter and I ended up doing a photo shoot with her in her apartment. Photographically it was pretty mediocre but she was great to shoot and when I planned a trip into the woods with Holly Beth a few days later we brought Giselle with us.

I am usually in here apologizing for my photography because I generally hate everything I do, but I actually like these photos a lot. We found some sort of abandoned mill and shot inside of it. I was pretty impressed Giselle was willing to climb the walls and pose inside the mill’s window frame. We had Holly on the look out and when people walked passed us (we were right next to a popular hiking trail) we would hide behind the walls, but when Giselle was up there, not only did she have to climb a wall but she was also visible for anyone to see. Fortunately I think we made it without anyone noticing.

A few months after we did this shoot Giselle moved to LA and became a super popular porn star and I assume lived happily ever after or something. I ran into her at AVN this past January and I hope we get to shoot again some day soon cause she was a damn pleasure to shoot.

For self promotional reasons I should mention that a bunch of photos from this trip are in my book Instaxxx and you should buy it – there’s some in my zine NOT SAFE as well and you can buy that with Instaxxx here.  Also usually I post a few exclusive shots just to Girls of Driven By Boredom, but the bonus shots were going to be of both Giselle and Holly, but I liked those too much so I just included them in this gallery too. That being said Girls of DBB had the photos 24 hours ago, has exclusive content of both girls and the photos are in high resolution. Just saying.

Galapágos In 35mm

So I got a ton of film back from the Galápagos Islands last week and I am happy with a bunch of it so I figured I should just let you guys see it all instead of posting the occasional photo on social media. You guys probably have had enough of my family vacation photos, but I promise this is the last update.

A quick rundown in case you have missed all the previous posts… In April 2017 I went on the first family vacation I’ve been on in probably 20 years. We went to the incredible Galapagos Islands but within 24 hours of being on the boat my dad tripped on a rock and cut his head open and we had to return home so he could get medical attention. You can read all about that first trip here. 13 months later, thanks to my parent’s brilliant decision to get travel insurance, we returned to the Galapagos and this time we made it through the whole trip with no serious injuries (my horrifying sunburn doesn’t count). You can read about the second trip here.

Okay, so now that we are up to speed let me give you some information about the photos in this gallery that you might need to know. First of all, they aren’t in any sort of order because I was shooting on two different cameras on different days and the rolls are all mixed up and who cares. That being said, there is a break in the gallery where there are like 5 terrible underwater photos. I shot them with a plastic camera that I bought more than a year ago and the film was expired and looks terrible. You will notice the difference. Everything AFTER those photos are from 2017. So you have about 10 rolls of film from 2018 and like 3 or 4 from 2018. In total there are almost 200 photos and most of them are of cute animals.

The two cameras I used (not including the underwater one) were a Fujifilm Klasse (point & shoot) and my old Nikon N80 (SLR). The N80 was the first camera I ever bought with my own money after working a summer job. I still love the camera and I actually just bought another one on eBay for $33 because the flash is broken on my old one. The Klasse is also sadly broken and it put small scratches over nearly ever photo. I thought I had fixed it before the trip but I was wrong. You should be able to tell the difference pretty easily between the shots if you look for the scratches (please don’t look for the scratches).

Aside from all the beautiful beaches and adorable wild life (baby boobies are real fucking cute and kinda terrifying) you will find some photos of my family. However my mom doesn’t want to be on my website so it’s pretty much just my dad and my brother. There’s also a few other people from the trip in there including this great old guy who told me his eyebrows made him look like an iguana so he counts as wildlife which his pretty hard to argue with. Lastly I should mention that if you don’t want to see my father’s skull through his ripped and bleeding flesh maybe stop looking at the photos when you get to the underwater shots. It’s not often you need a trigger warning for family photos but this shit is honestly pretty gruesome.

Okay, that’s about it and thanks for putting up with my vacation photos. The Galapagos is the most incredible place I’ve ever been but I promise to get back to the drunk and naked people ASAP.
