More Music From The Gathering Of The Juggalos

I didn’t spend at on of time this year shooting bands at The Gathering of the Juggalos. The line up usually includes a who’s who of hip hop legends, but this year the theme was “The Rise of the Underground” which really seemed like an experiment to see if juggalos would pay to see just juggalo bands. It turns out, maybe not… the festival was the least populated of the four I have attended, but there were still some decent acts.

Aside from the bands I have already posted (Icp, Twiztid, Onyx, Wolfpac and Tech N9ne) my favorite musical acts of this years Gathering were Blowfly, Rittz and Lil Wyte with Jellyroll. Blowfly is a legend and I have wanted to see him for years. He played in the middle of the night and was as amazing as expected. I explained him to someone as “imagine a 70 year old man dressed as Superman doing some sort of rap funk music about sex”. That’s pretty on point. I bought a t-shirt. Rittz is a pretty impressive rapper. If you don’t know about him you should google that shit. I saw Lil Wyte at the Gathering last year and was impressed and he killed it this year. The juggalos were getting live.

I wasn’t as psyched to see Sevendust or Soulfly because I hate nu-metal but Sevendust actually put on a pretty good show and I got a pretty great shot of their lead singer and his crazy dreads. Big Hoodoo played his first ever set at the Gathering so I think juggalos were psyched about that, or maybe not at all. Not really sure. Kottonmouth Kings were looking really old, but it seems like they are still able to write new songs about smoking weed. Swollen Members were playing their first US show since Madchild got banned from the country for associations with the Hells Angels. Razhel played again and did some beat boxing or whatever the hell he is all about these days. Um… ABK still has a lisp and I can’t listen to his music, but he actually seems like good people from what I can tell. I am probably missing some bands but  I just spilled coffee all over my office so I clearly need more coffee right now.

I have another Gathering update coming later today but this is it for the music. See you guys in a minute.

Tech N9ne At The Gathering Of The Juggalos

Tech N9ne is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists. I remember the first time I went to the Gathering of the Juggalos I showed my friend the list of bands. He’s a huge hip hop head and I thought I could impress him with some of the mainstream acts like Method Man & Redman, Warren G and Afroman (okay, maybe not Afroman) but he was only impressed with one name Tech N9ne. I didn’t even know his music back then but I checked out his show and ended up shooting pretty much the whole set.

Fast forward three years and I love the guy. His music is insane and he raps about 100 miles and hour and everyone loves him from underground hip hop heads, to juggalos to the mainstream. His new album is the #2 rap album on the Billboard charts. That’s fucking amazing. Juggalos love him and you see almost as many Tech N9ne and Strange Music tattoos as you do ICP tattoos. It’s pretty impressive and Tech N9ne shows the love back, showing up to the Gathering every year and even rapping about them in a song called Face Paint.

Anyway Tech N9ne puts on a fucking amazing show and juggalos love to show him their tits. This gallery is very NSFW because of that. It wasn’t quite as impressive when he was running around with 100 bras in his hand, but it’s still amazing how good he is at getting boobs out. As a photographer and a pervert it’s greatly appreciated. The bouncers appreciated it too…

I also got an amazing shot of Tech N9ne getting hit with a muddy shoe. Not sure what kinda asshole throws a shoe at Tech N9ne but I got the shot right as it hit him. You can see it coming for him in the background of the previous shot. I didn’t even realize I had the shot until I looked through the photos later. Tech rolled with it and barely even reacted. Hard as a motherfucker.

Now click here to see the full gallery of Tech N9ne photos from the 14th Gathering of the Juggalos.

Ps. If you want to see even more juggalette boobs I just uploaded hundreds of nude ‘lette pics to the DBB Mobile App!

Onyx & Wolfpac

I didn’t shoot a ton of bands at this years Gathering of the Juggalos. I mean, I would shoot the first song of people’s sets if I happened to be around, but with no huge acts like in past years I spent most of my time shooting people and not musical artists. But, tere were a few exceptions. On Thursday night Onyx and Wolfpac played in the fucking middle of the night on the second stage and I wanted to see them both.

Wolfpac I wanted to see because I have become friends with them over my years at the Gathering because they have a love for naked girls and violence. Their shows involve a lot of naked strippers, fire spitting and goons in hockey masks trying to start fights with the crowd. I saw them more than 10 years ago and they played pretty much the same set then as they do now, but it’s always a fucking shit show and great to photograph. (In their defense they actually have a new album out. Square Peg Round Hole out now!)

So click here to see all the very NSFW photos of Wolfpac at the 2013 Gathering of the Juggalos!

Onyx I wanted to see because I fucking love them. I remember being 12 years old in my bedroom moshing with my little brother to “Slam”. I have no idea how my parents even let me own Backdafucup when I was 12 (they confiscated Appetite For Destruction and As Nasty As The Wanna Be) but I had it and I loved it. About two years ago I pulled that shit out and started listening to it again and it totally holds up. I saw Onyx last year at the Gathering and Fredro and Sticky Fingaz fucking murdered it. This year they played at 4am to a smaller crowd but by the end of their set several hundred people had gathered and they fucked shit up as expected. Seriously they are so fucking raw.

The Insane Clown Posse Vs. Twiztid

The Insane Clown Posse founded Psychopathic Records to release not just their records, but records of other terrifying clown faced rappers. The first of these was the band Twiztid who quickly became nearly as popular as ICP in the juggalo world. When you go to the Gathering you see nearly as many Twiztid tattoos as hatchet men. Since the last Gathering Twiztid left Psychopathic to go out on their own and as much as they tried to squash it most juggalos know about the infighting between the two bands.

ICP and Twiztid also Votron together to form two different rap groups, Dark Lotus and the Psychopathic Rydas, the former being a huge favorite at the Gathering. A lot of people wondered if Twiztid would even play the Gathering much less Dark Lotus and the Rydas. As it turns out all three played and for Lotus and the Rydas it might have been the last time. It seemed like at times during all of their sets members got teary eyed and there seemed to be a lot of love between the two groups despite the going of separate ways. I guess we will just have to wait until next year to see if they will play again

And yes I realize that if you aren’t a juggalo you couldn’t possibly care about the beef between ICP and Twiztid and yes I realize if you ARE a juggalo you know all this shit and don’t need my explanation. So I guess what I am trying to say is that this write up serves no one so just go look at these photos or just skip to naked photos somewhere else on my site.

By the way, all four sets went off well and Twiztid got a great reaction from the crowd. ICP’s set was of course the biggest event of the Gathering and despite complaints about them doing the same set as always people were losing their mind and the “Faygo Armageddon” that the end every set with is pretty amazing. Say what you will about ICP but they put on one hell of a show. I have yet to meet someone who has seen them and not been at least a little bit impressed.

Juggalo Portraits At The Gathering

So I survived another Gathering of the Juggalos. If you somehow don’t know about the Gathering it is a festival in the middle of fucking no where called Cave In Rock, IL run by the Insane Clown Posse and their record label Psychopathic Records. Traditionally it’s one of the best hip hop festivals in the country with classic artists playing to very different crowds on small stages surrounded by kids who don’t even give a fuck because they are just there to see Psychopathic Records bands. It’s the kinda situation where Ice Cube opens up for Blaze Ya Dead Homie.

This year Psychopathic switched it up a bit, they tried an experiment by getting rid of the huge artists and stuck to underground artists that most people who aren’t juggalos have never heard of. Not sure it was the best decision as the festival wasn’t as well attended and it seemed like with less shit to do juggalos took even more drugs than normal and there were a lot of overdoses and a kid died and a kid cut off his own nipples and supposedly someone ate their own tongue. I saw more fights this year than I have in all the other years combined. Dark forces were hovering over the Gathering this year.

Still, it’s a wild fucking time and I took several thousand photos. I was covering the festival for the Village Voice, Rolling Stone and Hustler, plus Gawker ran some of my images in exchange for a place to stay. I shot a “Girls of the Gathering” feature for Hustler so I can’t post any of that stuff until after it comes out, but those photos are pretty awesome. Of the rest of the stuff, I have 1100 photos to post and I hope to get most of it online before I go on vacation Thursday. Let’s see how much I get done.

So if you haven’t seen my Gathering of the Juggalos photos before you need to click this link and scroll through the archives. And after that take a moment to look at these portraits from the Gathering. These are generally my favorite shots from the festival and a good way to open my coverage. I got band stuff coming next and then we will get to the other madness and finally end with a dump of everything else. So if I took your photo at the Gathering and you don’t see it here… don’t worry, it’s coming!

Road Trip Blog Is Back! GOTJ Edition!

When I went on my 30 day Route 66 road trip I launched the DBB Road Trip blog. It’s a perfect way to get up quick daily updates without having to deal with all the uploading and editing that comes with putting up a real post while I am on the road. The road trip blog is back this week as I return to the Gathering of the Juggalos. I will be out of town until Monday the 12th and I hope to update the road trip blog every day while I am gone.

I am shooting the Gathering for the Village Voice and Rolling Stone like I do every year, but this year I get to shoot it for Hustler as well. They are going to run a “Girls of the Gathering” article which should be pretty epic and very popular considering how popular my “Juggalo porn” updates are every year.  Expect the road trip blogs should be not safe for work. Just a warning.

Anyway I know people look forward and fear these updates ever year so get excited or horrified or hopefully a little of both. Should be a fun week.

Ps. While you are waiting for me to update, why don’t you check out the Girls of DBB mobile app!

The Lost Photos Of Sasha Sweet

Headed off to the Gathering of the Juggalos today but I wanted to get up a naked lady gallery quickly before I split town again. I have more than 20 girl sets ready to get up on my site but I like to spread them out for max value. Of the 20+ sets I have to post this one is by far the oldest.

I photographed Sasha Sweet over a year and a half ago when I was in Vegas for the AVN Awards. That night when went to dump the photos of Sasha onto my computer I realized that the memory card was dead. I tried to recover the images but I couldn’t get the card to even be recognized by the computer. I always had hope for recovering them but I just set the card aside and forgot about it.

It’s sort of a long story about how I ended up recovering the images a few weeks ago, but the point is you get a bunch of lost photos of Sasha Sweet. She is a total babe and sadly I haven’t seen her since we shot these. She’s living in New Orleans and I hope to shoot her again one of these days.

Bonus trivia about these photos is that they were taken in Kimberly Kane’s hotel room. She was staying with Sasha and Nate Liquor and after I shot Sasha her and Nate left and I started talking to KK. We had a long conversation and we ended up continuing it at a party they next day. A few months later we were dating and even though we aren’t dating anymore I still love her tons and still talk to her all the time so this shoot ended up being a huge moment in my life.

So yeah check out these photos and come back soon for all the Gathering of the Juggalos coverage you can handle. Oh, and there are a bunch more NSFW photos of Sasha on the DBB Girls App and the images are twice as big. If you want exclusive pics, photos sets in advance and higher resolution images you should download the app now!

Enough bullshit, click here to see all the naked photos of Sasha Sweet taken way back in January 2012!

Build It By Dawn – 8.3.13

Saturday night Bury Me In Brooklyn threw a party at 35 Beadel Street and they asked me to come out and shoot. My friends DKDS and Cobra Krames were spinning and I have always had a good time at the Bury Me In Brooklyn parties on Beadel St so I figured I would check it out. I didn’t know any of the other DJ’s but I was told that they were like candy raver DJ’s which was just slightly confusing to me because it is not 1998.

I grew up in DC during the 90’s when DC was pretty much the rave capital of the United States. I wasn’t into the dance music scene, but I did hang out with a lot of people who did a lot of drugs and parties were the place to get them. We would roll up on some club and try to buy drugs in line and then bounce before we even had to pay the cover. Then we would go back to someone’s house and listen to punk rock and do shit like E, Special K and “Crystal” which was what everyone called meth before those terrifying faces of meth ads. GHB was also pretty popular but you would take it yourself instead of rapping people with it. I was actually straightedge at the time but I hung out with a diverse bunch of fuck ups and I was always disturbed seeing my punk friends sucking on a pacifier because they were “rolling face.”

Anyway, the point of this rant is that seeing my nearly adult friends wearing Pokemon backpacks and wearing candy necklaces and sucking on pacifiers was awful 15 years ago and I thought it died out. Clearly it was just lurking about in Europe or something and when EDM came back, so did the grown ass people dressed like little kids. And yes, I know I went to EDC once and I wrote a whole article making fun of just their back packs but this was at a fucking  Brooklyn warehouse party. I didn’t even know how to deal with this so I just started talking to ravers about the 90s and how fucking old and grumpy I am and asking them about UFO pants.

Sorry for my old person rant about “these damn kids today”. You should just look at the pictures and either be psyched cause you are in them looking super fresh in your bedazzled rainbow gauntlets or because you want to laugh at said people. Either way this gallery is worth taking a look at.

#PPP: None Of Us Is Greater Than All Of Us – 8.1.13

Last night I hit up the opening of #PPP: None Of Us Is Greater Than All Of Us at Rox Gallery on the Lower East Side. The show was curated by NYC graffiti champs Mint&Surf and featured the work of their crew the Peter Pan Posse and other friends. My next door neighbor and one of my favorite humans Slutlust is a founding #PPP member andd had some work in the show so I hopped in a cab with him and his lady and we headed over the bridge to the show.

It’s not often that I am at an art opening for more than 15 minutes but I stayed at Rox for a few hours. Every time I tried to leave the space another group of people I was excited to see showed up . Plus Rox is a great space and there was a lot of great art on the walls. I don’t want to leave anyone out so here is the huge list of artists involved:

Arab Parrot, Bast, Baron Von Fancy, Bob Waltzer, Cat Marnell, Clayton Patterson, Curtis Kulig, Dirty Shaun, Dylan Kraus, Erik Foss, Harry McNally, Jacuzzi Chris, Lance De Los Reyes, Mark Ferkul, Michael Anderson, Mint&Serf, Norman Seeff, Osvaldo Chance Jimenez, Pablo Power, Peter Sutherland, Pj Monte, Sean Kinney, Wyatt Neumann and Beni Zooted.

On top of that you hat Pablo Power cutting all his hair off in the middle of the show, spraying shaving cream on people and bleeding out the side of his head. It was a pretty good scene. Now I got shit to to so just go look at the photos.
