Art Basel In 35mm

Art Basel was an amazing time. I mean I always have a great time in Miami but this trip was pretty great. I spent six nights on a couch with a bunch of girls who party like maniacs and stay up all hours of the night so I got maybe 8 hours of sleep total the whole trip. I went to a lot of crazy parties, saw some amazing art and got my jock on catching my two favorite teams the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Capitals on back to back days. I even got some nudity out of the whole thing which I know will make you degenerate bastards happy. So yeah there is some NSFW stuff in here.

I took a ton of 35mm shots with my point and shoot camera that I carry with me everywhere. It all started out on the flight down I met a guy named Warren who runs Branded Arts introduced me to a bunch of rad street artists pretty much right when we got off the plane. From there I hit up Liv where I saw my hometown hero Wale and friend of many friends Santigold perform. From there on out it was just work party and eat ending with a relaxing Sunday and Monday catching the Dolphins demolition of the Raiders and then watching my Caps get beaten by the damned Florida Panthers.

You just gotta look at these photos but I wanted to give a few shout outs to some good people I spent time with this trip. This is about to send like the last track on a rap album. I gotta thank everyone I crashed with and their insane dog named Kitty. I made a new friend in Sasha Anter who slept on a couch next to me every night. Lots of good hangs with my homie Lamour Supreme who introduced me to Buff Monster who is real good people. Thanks to Shark Toof again for painting my vest. Shout out to Sailor Jerry and Filter Mag for paying for my trip. Thanks to Kimora Klein for getting naked in the middle of the street in the middle of the night. Good times with Warren and his boy Roger all week. Always good to see my boy Brock Fetch who was in town for Juxtaopoz. I got to chill with him and his editor Evan who evidently was a fan of my site which was awesome. Good peoples there. Good to see Ninjasonik in yet ANOTHER city. Thanks to Jake Jefferson for getting me into some fun stuff. Shout out to Rony Alwin and his lady for being amazing kids. And lastly always good to see Overthrow and party with them at Basel Castel.  And I am out. Fresh for 2011, you suckas!

Just fucking click here to see all the 35mm point and shoot photos I took all week at Art Basel in Miami.

More Dinner With Igor

I keep taking 35mm snap shots of everyone I eat with. If you recall I posted this massive gallery of photos of people eating a while back and today I add another 32 exciting shots to the gallery. Over the last few months I have been traveling a lot so I have dinner pictures in such exotic locations as Miami, New Orleans, Austin and Chicago! Lots of good food, interesting people and cute girls.

My favorite spot was Lambert’s in Austin with the Black Lips and Skerrit Bwoy. I had hot dogs on halloween with Girl Talk and his posse and late night dinner with zombie babes. There may or may not be some shots of cute girls I went on romantic and life changing dates with and there is a shot of a man named Shark Toof devouring a sandwich like a human shark hybrid. There is even a photo of dinner with actual juggalos. I know you missed them. All and all it is a delicious good time and a perfect post for a lazy Sunday evening.

See you guys tomorrow with some more 35mm goodness from my Miami trip…

Click here to see an absurd number of 35mm snap shots of people eating with me including the 32 new ones I added today.

Basel Castle – 12.3.11

Last year at Art Basel my friends at The Overthrow threw one of the best parties of Miami Art Week, this year was no exception. My boys in Ninjsonik were playing so of course this party was #1 on my list of things I wanted to do. Luckily for me my favorite client Sailor Jerry was one of the sponsors so not only did I get to hang out at the insane party but I actually got paid to be there. This is how you win at Art Basel.

The line up of the party was absolutely sick. Aside from the Ninjas Basel Castle featured Yelawolf as a headliner, a Rapture DJ set, Penguin Prison, Bad Rabbits, Chris Cab, Tamara Sky and a bunch more. They had live painting from Ron English, Greg Mike, Shark Toof, Sam Flores and more. There was a photo booth run by my party photo brother from another mother Rony Alwin and a lot of Sailor Jerry and PBR to fuel the 11 hour party. Also the whole thing was thrown by Hyundai who keeps throwing really good Re:Mix Lab parties and even though they aren’t paying me I need to give a shout out to them for mixing art and music really well and paying for rad people to do rad things.

Sailor Jerry had their Airstream on site and as the line wrapped around the block we would pull people in for some Sailor Jerry and a place to chill while they waited to get in. There were 8,000 RSVPs to the party and trying getting in after 8pm was pretty much impossible. Luckily the Sailor Jerry trailer was there to keep people entertained. It was also a spot for artists and rad people to get away from the madness of the party for a minute and have a drink. It was a very cool spot to have access to during the party.

Yelawolf killed it, Ninjasonik were amazing as always and meeting Ron English was a pretty awesome experience but the highlight of my night had to be when amazing street artist Shark Toof had one too many Sailor Jerry and decided it would be a good idea to spray paint my vest. I had just had lunch with him earlier in the day and I was kinda joking about the idea but around midnight it seemed like a really good idea. He had just painted this insane shark and then he turned his cans on me. What I thought was going to be like a two minute thing turned into nearly an hour of him spraying my vest until it was a true work of art. Tons of people gathered to watch the whole thing and I handed my friend Rodger my camera to get a few shots. It was pretty great.

Anyway, this is the last gallery of party pictures I have from Art Basel but I also shot six or seven rolls of film so I will have one all 35mm gallery from Basel that should be pretty cool.  But in the mean time…

Ps. Just wanted to say sorry to Buff Monster and his girlfriend for getting them stuck outside of the party for twenty minutes when the cops shut down the gate. I hope that huge bottle of Sailor Jerry made up for it…

Le Baron – 12.2.11

The French nightclub Le Baron throws yearly pop up parties at the Florida Room in Miami during Art Basel. Last Friday they held a New York themed night featuring 2/3rds of the Ruff Kids and appearances by a bunch of New York nightlife kids. The Friday Le Baron “This Is New York” night was put together by GrandLife the entertainment arm of GrandLifeHotels. You had Mike Nouveau DJing, Steven Rojas hosing plus New York based Whitewall Magazine helped by sponsoring the party.  Sophia Lamar showed up with with camera shy Misshapes and for a while it felt very NYC 2005 up in the club.

There were some not so NYC celeb sitings as well. I got a pretty hilarious shot of Mr. Brainwash and Waris Ahluwalia was hanging out all night. I saw James Murphy there for a second and I heard Adrian Brody was there but I never saw him. There were also a bunch of well known art types who I have no idea who are because I lack culture.

It was a fun party and there was a line around the block all night. People were getting wild, no doubt because of the two hour Sailor Jerry open bar, and I had multiple model looking girls tell me how much they like my punk rock jean vest thing. So it was a pretty good night.

Disco Basel – 12.1.11

Last night in Miami I shot the Toyota Antics Art Basel party at Grand Central for Filter Magazine. I have been to Grand Central five times or something and it’s always been a really good time. Last night was no exception. The Black Lips played a full set and James Murphy and Pat Mahoney from LCD Soundsystem DJ’d late night. My old pals Sailor Jerry were doing $3 drinks all night and an open bar early. Toyota had cars set up as different fun things to do like photo booths and a fortune telling booth like from the movie Big. It was pretty awesome. They also had a “name that song” game show where a guy won an iPad. Good times.

Anyway, I gotta go do more Art Basel fun so let’s just look at parties and I will talk to you guys soon…

Bruise Cruise CMJ Party – 10.22.11

By the time you read this I will be on my way to Miami, FL to take a bunch of photos at Art Basel and Miami Art Week and then watch my Dolphins play the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. I won’t be back until Tuesday and I kinda have a feeling I won’t update so much when I am gone. I will be updating my Tumblr and Twitter a lot but I don’t really see too many updates between now and a week from now. I will try to get something up Friday and something up Monday but I don’t even know if I will have reliable internet access. When I travel I rarely make plans so who fucking knows.

Anyway, since I wanted to get something up as to update you to the status of my adventuring I looked around to see if I had any old posts that slipped through the cracks and I did! During CMJ I shot the Bruise Cruise party at Public Assembly but I was only there for about 90 minutes so I didn’t really have a full gallery or anything. The party had an amazing line up but I missed almost everything so I never put it up.

The one band I did get to see was Bleached and they were amazing. They sounded a little bit like X and a little Ramonesey and all awesome. Also their lead singer lady was walking around with a teddy bear full of honey all night cause her throat was fucked up. That was pretty adorable. I bought their 7″ single and it was pretty great. So check them out for sure.

Okay, that’s it. It’s Miami time. Click here to see pictures from the Bruise Cruise CMJ party on my way out of town…

Whitney: Engineered To Destroy

You guys remember Whitney right? We went on a road trip across the country this summer. You might recall that we took topless photos of her along the way. It was good times. Unfortunately after she dropped me off I didn’t see her again until a few days ago. Whitney was in NYC for a little bit after that but we never managed to run into each other and then she was back to LA from whence she came.  Luckily for us she was in town this past week and we decided we had to do a new photo shoot.

But where could we shoot I wondered? I am pretty much out of locations. I noticed on the Twitters that Mishka was promoting their Black Friday sale pretty heavily and it gave me idea.  Their 350 Broadway flagship store is right around the corner from my Brooklyn apartment so I hit them up and asked them if I could use it as a location. Mishka said yes and we pulled come clothes for Whitney out of boxes in the back (including this Engineered To Destroy snapback that I now own) and we got to work.

350 Broadway has insanely weird mixed lighting so we got to mess around with that a lot. The photos glow of liquor store esque neon lights. We had her play Street Fighter and lay around on top of sweaters. They probably could sell for more now… One of the funniest parts of the shoot was that we did it right around 3PM and school kids and Hasidic families kept walking by.  We hid her pretty good when we could but I think a few people got a pretty good show.

Anyway, enjoy the NSFW photos and make sure you score some Mishka swag for all the hip kids on your Christmas list. They are having a big Cyber Monday sale today only!

Black Friday Trampling Videos

Since I didn’t update on Thanksgiving and I probably won’t update again until Monday I wanted to give you guys a little Black Friday update. I figured nothing would make you guys happier than watching a few videos of people getting trampled on Black Friday.

By the way I did some Black Friday madness at Best Buy last year and it was kinda fun and I got really cheap hard drives. This year I have been reading Twitter and it’s just post after post mocking people who get up early and wait in line for Black Friday sales. I have heard several people talk about how they should work harder the rest of the year so they would have more money to pay for full price things. I also have heard people talk shit about consumerism and how it’s gross that people buy things.

I just wanted to say fuck you to all of you. How can you judge people like that in this economy. How can you tell parents that they shouldn’t by their kids Christmas presents because it doesn’t mesh with your bullshit vegan hipster lifestyle. Shout outs to all the people out there doing what they can to get the things they need for their families at a price they can afford.

Now all that being said, watch these fun videos of poor desperate people try to kill each other over discount electronics.

Wolf Party – 11.22.11

Last night it was miserable and rainy and the day before the day before Thanksgiving but I just got a new lens and I wanted to go play with it. I picked up a prime 35mm 1:2 lens that a photographer recommended to me at Fun Fun Fun and at $300 it’s more than $1000 less than the 35 1:1.4 that I have been longing. It’s not really an ideal lens for nightlife and I got it for low light portrait work but I wanted to play with it.

I headed out to the Wolf Party which was surprisingly packed for how shitty it was outside. I pulled my flash off camera and shot with two flashes for the first time since I got my current lens which is too long to shoot using my pop up flash.  The two flashes plus the depth of field I got with the new lens opened up made for some nice shots, but it’s way too much a pain in my ass for normal use. By the end of the party I had my flash back on my camera and was missing my zoom lens.

Anyway, I am 100% sure that unless you are a photographer you do not give a fuck about the last two paragraphs. So just look at all the wild pics from the party and I will shut the fuck up.
