Brooklyn Zombie Crawl – 5.29.11

Sunday was my birthday and it also happened to be the yearly Memorial Day weekend Brooklyn Zombie Crawl.  My friend Doug runs NYC Zombie Crawl and they do two crawls a year, one in Manhattan near Halloween and the Memorial Day Brooklyn one. I have shot almost all of them over the last few years and despite my planned birthday shenanigans this crawl was no exception.

I met up with Doug and the zombies at the Knitting Factory where the NYC Zombie Crawl team was doing free make up for everyone for several hours before the crawl began. When I showed up they were doing their last few zombies and a huge crowd had gathered both in and out of the club. As we waited zombies began attacking passing cars and things and as the crawl began the zombie hordes attacked more cars, trucks and onlookers.  Ice cream trucks and even cop cars met their match on the streets of Williamsburg.

The crawl marched through the streets and ended up at McCarren Park where the zombies attacked people playing baseball, volley ball and kick ball. At the park the zombies were treated to a show of blood when Disgraceland Hook Squad performed a flesh pull tug of war that was not for the faint of heart.  There was also fire breathing and other assorted madness.

The whole afternoon was filmed for a scene in Doug’s newest film “Punk Rock Holocaust 3” which will be filmed primarily on the Warped Tour using bands and the crowds as actors in a horror film. He made the first two years ago but with a bigger budget, better cameras and a lot more know how Punk Rock Holocaust 3 should be pretty nuts.

Anyway, after the meet up in McCarren Park the under 21 zombies headed home and the adult zombies headed to Public Assembly for drinks and way more chaos.  I personally got blindingly drunk at the after party and took some insane (and very NSFW) photos that you need to come back tomorrow and check out.

In the mean time check out all the pictures from the 2011 Brooklyn  Zombie Crawl.  They are rated NSFW for a few zombie boobs and a lot of bloodshed…

Too Old For This Shit

Yeah yeah yeah. It’s my fucking birthday. I am over it. I am 31 now which makes it really creepy that I keep hitting on 18 year old girls, but let’s be reasonable they are the only ones dumb enough to fall for my bullshit game. Seriously though, I have had some insane and midly epic birthday party ever year that I have lived in NYC but that shit is all behind me. I will have another one when I turn 40 if I am still alive.

I still only drink on my birthday and New Years Eve so if you really want to hang out with me today and watch me drink and try to hit on anything with boobs and try to start fights with strangers I will be at Public Assembly for the Brooklyn Zombie Crawl after party and then I will be hitting up Sway late night.

So yeah, just figured I should give you the info and now I am going to go back to getting old and slowly dying. If you want to get me a present just make your friends/fans/followers/etc to go to my website/twitter/tumblr/facebook etc. Or you know, just show me your boobs. Whatever works.

Fuck art, let’s kill. Merry Christmas.

Story Time

Today we are going to take a break from photos and just regale you with stories.  I was thinking about what I was going to update with today and I realized I didn’t really have anything which led me to realize that I haven’t shot many parties or anything really. But I feel like the last week or so has been pretty productive and interesting so I guess I will just tell you a few stories and you will just have to imagine the pictures in your head… at least until I get my film developed.

I think my week of reasonable productivity began last Sunday when I photographed Veruca James naked in public.  Those are the last pictures I took that you have actually seen.  On that shoot I found out that my friend Colin had died two weeks prior and no one had told me. I missed the Facebook invite to his funeral. I was on very little sleep and while I had been expecting his death for some time it really had an effect on me. I had been planning a trip to Virginia to go to his memorial service for a few months ever since he checked into hospice and finding out that he died and I didn’t know about it really fucked up my head.  I wanted to see a movie to get my mind of things so I tried to get my friend Promise to go see Pirates 4 with me because it would allow me to zone out for a while but she wanted to see something with a little more substance so we went and checked out a movie called Blank City about the No Wave and Cinema of Transgression underground NYC film movements of the late 70’s and early 80’s.  The movie was so inspiring and so depressing to me. Here were these people making so much art and collaborating and just living in NYC when it was this burned out shell of a place where you could live for $50 a month. And here I am 30 years later taking photos of drunk people instead of making something relevant or important.

So this post ended up being obscenely long so I need to create a jump. If you want to keep reading click below unless of course you came to this post directly making these instructions just confusing and unnecessary.

2011 NFL Draft Photos

Okay. This is going to be a quick update for two reasons. 1) You don’t give a shit about these photos 2) I shot these photos with a point and shoot digital camera so they are terrible.

Weeks ago my Miami Dolphins fan club, Dolfans NYC, met up to go to the NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall. I know many of you are probably horrified that I co-run a fan club for an NFL Football team, but this is reality, you are going to have to deal with it.  Anyway, it happened and we made a lot of noise and even got on TV. We also made signs in support of a former Miami Dolphin named Jim Mandich who was the radio voice of the Dolphins for many years. He meant a lot to the Dolphins community and we wanted to pay tribute as the draft was just a few days after his battle with cancer ended his life.  We made signs that said “Alright Miami!” which was his catch phrase and got them shown on ESPN and NFL Network. I did a few interviews as well and while I never heard/saw them I hope they exist somewhere out there. We even got NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to hold a sign.

Anyway, that’s the story, click here to see the terrible pictures I took at the Dolfans NYC trip to the NFL Draft.

Veruca James Naked In Public

Meet Veruca James. She is a Burning Angel model from Chicago who came to NYC with her boyfriend and another BA girl named Azure (You will meet Azure later…).  All three of them are just crazy perverts and I had a great time hanging out with all of them.  What I quickly realized about Veruca, aside from her being a babe, is that she is pretty much down for anything.  The night I met her we just took random naked potos of her in the street with my little point and shoot camera and then I pulled out my real camera when we walked across the street and shot in a Chase Bank. Good times.

A site called New York Lives is doing a video interview with me and they wanted footage of me shooting a naked girl. I had a perfect idea. I hit up NY Lives and Veruca and her Chicago team and we all headed down to Chinatown to take some photos in the middle of the street. There were cops everywhere so we just decided to go to the busiest place possible and hope for the best. We shot right on the corner of Broadway and Canal, the craziest spot in Chinatown, and no one said a word.  People stopped and watched and applauded when we finished but no one seemed the slightest bit offended. We quickly snuck into the Subway and made our next move.

I thought that was going to be it for us, but everyone decided we should do more so we all headed towards their hotel near the World Trade Center.  We got out of the Subway, found a random corner and took some more photos. Oh, right, and we took a few photos ON the Subway as well.  After our second shot went perfectly we decided to test our luck and head down to Wall Street and get a shot of her with the famous Wall Street “Charging Bull” statue. There were tourists all over it posing for picture after picture.  At first I felt bad doing it around a bunch of little kids but I soon realized everyone was posing their small children with the Bull’s giant brass balls.  Anyone who thought that was a good idea couldn’t get too mad at some boobs. We shot very quickly at the Bull and then ran away since it seemed like the riskiest move. My shots there were the worst even though it was my favorite location.  But whatever it was a lot of fun anyway and we got some crazy shots.

Speaking of crazy shots check out this video still of me taking the Wall Street Bull photo care of NY Lives. Keep in mind it is NSFW (as is this whole gallery of course…).

And now that you have done all that click here to see all the crazy photos of Veruca James naked in public all over lower Manhattan!

Meet McAllister The Puppy

So I had a dog named Freedom that we got when I was in the 5th grade. He was a West Highland White Terrier and he was named for his 4th of July birthday. We mostly called him Free. A few months shy of his 18th birthday he died a very old and loved dog. My parents kept talking about getting another Westie but I never thought they were going to do it. But the other week my dad surprised me with an email with a picture of an adorable new puppy named McAllister that they call Mac.

Last weekend I went home to DC for my mom’s birthday and to get a chance to hang out with Mac before he gets too big. Around 6am I was thinking about going to sleep when I saw some baby robins nesting outside my parents kitchen window. I got my camera but without a telephoto lens I couldn’t get a decent shot without bothering the baby birds so I turned the camera on McAllister and I popped off about 100 photos.  Because it was so early there wasn’t much light in the kitchen so I had to shoot all the way open at 2.8 and still shoot at a pretty slow shutter speed. If you don’t know what that means, it means that of the 100 or so photos most of them were pretty blurry.  But fortunately for you guys I am a master of both photographic technique and puppy wrangling and I got some pretty adorable shots for you to check out.

Yes I know, it is not a naked girl or drunk people at a night club, but I figured you guys would enjoy a change of pace.

So click here to see a full gallery of adorable photos of the raddest Westie puppy around: McAllister!

Boy N Girl Party – 5.21.11

My homie Pablo has a band called Boy N Girl and he keeps trying to get me to come see them which is what people in bands do.  He’s a good dude and pretty weird looking so I figured his band would be pretty nuts.  Last night I was just really looking to get out of the house right when I got a text from him announcing the first of perhaps many Boy N Girl parties at the Panda Lounge on the LES. My boy Chad Dubz was DJing and there were going to be cupcakes. How could I pass this up?

I headed down there around 1230 and Boy N Girl were just setting up for a mini stripped down set they were doing. The spot wasn’t packed or anything but it was a fun crowd and I was excited to see them do their thing. Unfortunately the sound was fucking nightmarish and their first song was basically all feedback.  Pablo and his partner in crime Bella powered through their short set list anyway and actually got an encore despite the shitty sound. Pablo put down his guitar and rocked it standing up. It was pretty great.  Clearly I need to see them again for real but it was a good first impression.

Oh, did I mention that Bella is insanely hot, has possibly the greatest boobs ever invented has a sexy accent and kept talking about sluts? Yeah, clearly you need to see Boy N Girl and luckily for all of us they are playing Sunday with the homies Hussle Club and Trouble Andrew at the Canal Room.

While we wait for their show, click here to see all the pictures from the very first Boy N Girl Party at the Panda Lounge.

Why Do I Live Like This 35mm Pics

You have seen all my digital photos from the Prince Terrence/Dances With White Girls Why Do I Live Like This mini tour.  We went to Indianapolis, Louisville (and the Kentucky Derby) and ended the trip in Cleveland (and in a bathroom). But what you haven’t seen are the 8 roll of film that I shot on the trip.  The reason I got in the car with Terry and Dances and their ladies is because I wanted to shoot some crazy road trip madness and I got my wish. I shot all the crazy, but I also shot a lot of the just hanging out and eating food. Seriously, there are a lot of shots of us eating… I even shot a roll of slide film that expired 15 years ago.

When you look through the gallery I will give you some highlights to look for. You get to see Terry and I hanging out with some cows. Me screaming at a blue hippo. In Indy we shot off a lot of fireworks so there is a bunch of that. In Louisville you get to meet Terry’s amazing grandfather “The Dude”.  You get some NSFW shots including more of Haley Ann and a drunk lady flashing a midget at the Kentucky Derby. Speaking of the Derby there is a pretty nice shot of a guy getting arrested.  And of course there are a lot of shots of food.  All and all it’s a pretty serious gallery I think.

You need to check it out right fucking now by clicking here.

Childish Gambino – 5.14.11

I met Childish Gambino aka the comedian Donald Glover at SXSW this year when the web editor of Village Voice Media was writing a story on him for the Village Voice. The Voice ended up having enough time to get Donald into a studio for the cover shoot but they had me shoot some images at SXSW just incase they weren’t able to more shots later. I met Donald again a few days later backstage at the Village Voice / Frank 151 SXSW showcase.  He and Community co-star Danny Pudi spent some time looking though my photos on my iPad before they (with me in tow) got pulled back to Wu Tang’s dressing room. I ran into Donald one other time at SXSW and since then he and I have kept in touch.

Since meeting him I have been listening to his rap EP under the name Childish Gambino and I really love it.  He was playing two shows in NYC in May, one in Manhattan on the 10th and the second in Brooklyn on the 14th. I missed the show on the 10th but I went to the after party with a few friends. He freestyled for over an hour and Questlove filled in for him on drums. It was pretty impressive.  After that he invited us back to his penthouse at the Thompson hotel for an after party. It was a pretty good time so I figured I needed to pay him back by getting my ass to his Brooklyn show and taking some pictures.

On Saturday I showed up to the Williamsburg Hall of Music with several hundred other people ready to see the IAMDONALD tour in action.  Donald came out and did 20 minutes or so of stand up and then played a video that closely resembled one of the old Derrick Comedy sketches.  The video led the audience to his live Childish Gambino performance.  He brought out a full band and did at least an hour set of hip hop jams that rocked the crowd silly.  On one song the band takes a break and a video is played of one of my favorite comedians Reggie Watts crafting a beat for Donald which he raps over live. It was pretty legit.

The whole show was being taped for something and one of my favorite moments of the night was when, before he played his encore, the lights shined on the crowd and it turned out that The Soup host and Community star Joel McHale was one of the camera man and was filming the show from the crowd. The kids all around him went nuts.  Childish came back on, and fucked the crowd up with a killer encore and then I went home and tried to get some fucking sleep.  Good times.
