Dolfans NYC Take Over The Meadowlands

My Miami Dolphins fan club rode in to the belly of the beast last weekend.  It is our third group to the Meadowlands to watch our Dolphins take on the New York Jets.  The first year there were only a few of us.  Last year we had about a dozen… This year Dolfans NYC bought 63 tickets to the game and held a huge tailgate with tons of Dolphins fans from all over the greater New York area.  The size of the group may be different but the results have been the same time. Dolfans NYC has walked out of that stadium with a victory.

When we showed up to Giants Stadium at 11:30 in the morning it was pouring rain. We had bought a little tent but the wind was blowing so hard we didn’t have any idea how we were going to set it up.  We had a bunch of meat in the car that was getting warm so I got out and put everything into these cheap coolers we bought.  The first cooler ripped to bits when I dropped the ice in and started blowing away. After a fierce struggle I got everything into the other cooler and returned to the car freezing and completely soaked.  Around 12 another car showed up and the rain had let up a little bit.  They were ready to face the elements so we tried to set up this tent tying the thing to the cars with ribbon that my friend Michelle bought to hang up balloons. It was a very haphazard set up but it was good enough to get the grill set up.  When the wind picked up a few minutes later the tent almost blew away but we held it down until the wind actually bent the poles so badly that we had to throw the thing away after the tailgate. At some point the rain slowed to a drizzle and a bunch more Dolphins fans showed up and we had ourselves a party.

The game itself was a mess but we had 16 tickets in our section and we just happened to luck out and were sitting with another handful of Phins fans.  We had some very big dudes with us and some very drunk dudes with us and we just ruined the game for every Jets fan around us and that is exactly what we came to do.  In the end the Dolphins won and we were completely drenched and freezing, but I couldn’t be more content as we walked out of Giants Stadium singing the Dolphins fight song.

Bombshell Brats For Jessie Lee

So during the Pretty Hardcore party for Jessie Lee the Bombshell Brats showed up in force.  They brought six girls to help raise money for Jessie Lee. As I mentioned before they gave lap dances and posed for pictures to solicit donations.  But what they also did was provide me with really fun photo shoots throughout the night. I shot all six of them naked in the Angels & Kings bathroom one at a time and the I gathered them all together for a grand finale where I shot all of them in one picture. It was a blessed occasion.  The girls included Indigo Augustine, Annika and Missy Starr & Sammie Sixx all of whom I have shot before (click the links!) but they also brought Roggie who I have wanted to shoot for ages and a girl named Mia Rebel who I had never met before.  By the end of the night the drinks were flowing and I did one extra shoot with Mia and Sammie that got a bit out of hand… It was pretty crazy. I’ll have pictures from that another day but many of those pictures are not suitable for a classy site such as Driven By Boredom…

Then again… If you donate $20 or more to Jessie Lee between now and January 1st I will send you a zip file of the way too dirty pictures of Sammie & Mia. Pretty good idea right?  Just email me your Pay Pal receipt and I’ll send you the file.

So again, remember to donate to Jessie Lee.  She has brain damage and might not be able to work for a long time. She has hospital bills to pay and all of it sucks. Help the girl out!

And once you donate some money, you should click right here to see six Bombshell Brats naked in a bathroom at Angels & Kings to show their support for our pal Jessie Lee. Very NSFW.

Pretty Hardcore – 12.10.10

Last Friday there was another benefit for Jessie Lee.  This time the party was held at Angels and Kings and featured six nude models care of Bombshell Brats.  To get into the event it was totally free but the girls raised money by giving lap dances and posing for photos with people for donations to Jessie.  There was also a raffle to help raise money as well.  The party was not as well attended as the erotic art show for Jessie Lee but it was a lot of fun and I got everyone naked in a bathroom which is going to be very fun for you guys. I am not sure how much money was raised but I I know a ton of people bought raffle tickets and there was a lot of lap dancing going on so I am pretty sure it’s going to help Jessie out a lot.

I bought two raffle tickets to support the cause even though I have never won a raffle in my life. I seriously have the worst luck ever when it comes to those things.  Luck was on my side for once and I won a $200 gift certificate to Seppuku Tattoo.  Unfortunately Seppuku is in NJ and I don’t really know how to get there so I traded my $200 certificate to the guy who won the $100 gift certificate to New York Hardcore Tattoos.  NYHC Tattoo is right in the LES and I have always wanted to get tattooed there. It’s owned by NYHC legends Jimmy Gestapo and Vinnie Stigma. Those two dudes were in two of my favorite bands growing up and were both amazingly nice to me back in the 90’s when I was seeing their bands all the time.  The first time I ever went to NYC as an adult was about a decade ago and NYHC had just opened. My friend wanted to get a tattoo and I made her go to NYHC so I could make the pilgrimage. I was staying in midtown and didn’t know how the Subways worked so we walked all the way down and back. She got tattooed and I just got to hang out with Jimmy the whole time. It was pretty awesome for me when I was 20.

Anyway, this post is not about me. It’s about two things: Raising money for Jessie Lee and naked chicks.  The first part is easy. You need to click here and send in some fucking money for Jessie Lee. And if you need a refresher on what happened to her, click here.  The second part you have to wait a little bit on.  This gallery is pretty NSFW but all the serious naked stuff I shot in the Angels & Kings bathroom and I decided it needs it’s own post since it’s pretty epic.

So click here to see all the party pictures from the Pretty Hardcore party for Jessie Lee & Angels and Kings and see you in about 30 minutes with all the naked bathroom pictures!

Village Voice Web Awards – 12.7.10

Right now I am in New Jersey tailgating, probably in the rain, getting ready for the Dolphins to take on the New York Jets. I wrote this at 2 am last night though as I was trying to get my shit together to wake up tomorrow and deal with a huge tailgate party in a rain that I am very responsible for. Organizing a 100 person tailgate is not exactly an easy thing to do and I have to be up in 6 or 7 hour so really I am just going to get through this update waaaay to fast.

If you want to know more about the Village Voice Web Awards you should click here and read the Voice’s coverage. But I will give you the bullet points.

  • Astronomical Boy played and was awesome/adorable.
  • The Gregory Brothers were all there and won an award for viral video of the year.
  • I did not win best photo blog but since I was hired to shoot the event had to shoot the actual winner.
  • Todd Barry hosted.
  • There was a lot of Four Loko drinking going on…
  • There was fucking awesome free cheesecakes from Whole Foods.

So yeah that’s that. It was a good time and since I don’t actually care about winning any sort of web awards I wasn’t even bummed out. I just really wanted a giant foam thumbs down that said “Loser” on it. Now that would have been worth hanging on my wall.

2010 Tisch Gala – 12.6.10

I am pretty behind with posting but I think I will be pretty much caught up by Monday. I have this update today, pictures from the Village Voice Web Awards tomorrow and then absolutely crazy pictures from last night going up Monday. You need to make sure to tune in for those. Last night was nuts.

Anyway, I got hired to shoot the 2010 Tisch Gala again this year. The Gala is a big fundraiser for NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. They honor famous actors, dancers, musicians and other artists who are involved in the Tisch community and there is big show involving the honorees and Tisch students. They raise money by selling tickets to the show and a dinner held after the show.

I was hired to shoot before the show as the guests arrive, backstage at the show and then one of the dinner rooms.  So my night was broken up into three separate parts.  The first part was pretty much straight party photography. I was shooting the doners and guests standing around drinking wine and getting ready to go into the show.  That’s my standard type of event.  The third part of the night was more like shooting a wedding or something. I had to go to each table and arrange everyone for a group photo. In between that stuff I got to hang out back stage…

Billy Crystal, Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg were the the biggest names in attendance and they were all just hanging out backstage with me. Unfortunately it was so dark back there that I wasn’t able to shoot any photos (I didn’t get to us my flash until the very last number), but I did get to hear some pretty funny Robin Williams conversations. I heard him do his Miss Doubtfire impression and just generally crack everyone up. He made it a point to clap for all the students as they came off stage and introduced himself to everyone. At some point we realized that I was better off in the greenroom since I couldn’t shoot backstage.  I shot Billy Crystal’s daughter Lindsay with Paul Shaffer and I shot Marcia Gay Harden with Broadway actor Isaiah Johnson. It was all pretty cool. But clearly my best shots came when I got to shoot the big three together as they were walking on stage for the final number. I also got to shoot Robin and Billy with the president of NYU John Sexton.

All and all a very cool night and I got to eat a bunch of mini deserts after I finished shooting all the tables.  Good times.

Miami Dolphins Web Weekend

After I spent three days in Miami proper for Art Basel I drove bout 30 minutes up the road to Plantation, FL where I was staying for a whole different experience. I was invited to take part in the Miami Dolphins Web Weekend.  The Dolphins invite a bunch of people who run Miami Dolphins websites down every year.  They take us to a game and we do a Q&A with the Dolphins coach and other people in the Dolphins organization.  There is also a community service aspect to it which unfortunately I had to miss because it was at 8am and I was out until 7am the night before.  That being said, my website Dolfans NYC raised $1000 for the Miami Dolphins Foundation charity and we presented the money to the Dolphins CEO Mike Dee Saturday afternoon. My Miami trip took a huge turn for the worse as the Dolphins lost the game with zero seconds on the clock after dropping what would have been a game winning interception. After that I attempted to once again eat The Beast and lost, falling considerably short of the last time I tried it. Disappointment all around but over all it was a fun trip…

Exhibitalia Art Basel – 12.3.10

My last night in Miami proper was a pretty fun one. I had a photo shoot on a beach with a hot naked girl (coming tomorrow I hope…) and then I tried to drive to South Beach to get some food with some friends. I tried to park for over an hour before just giving up and driving down town for this Exhibitalia party that Fiat and Fader put on.  It was a bunch of Italian art and some of it was really good and some of it was really really bad. I was asked to shoot the thing for the Miami New Times but I was also excited to go because Nick Catchdubs was DJing and I love that dude.

When I got there Nick was nowhere to be found but there was plenty of meat and sticks and I ate a bunch of meat on a stick and took photos for a while.  It was sort of empty and seemed kinda lame for a while but then for some reason Pharell was there. I asked him if I could take his photo and he said no, but he shook my hand and introduced himself.  I told him I was a fan, and I am, and he told me that I could take a picture of me and him together. I don’t really take pictures like that but he made it seem like this was something we had to do, so I took a picture of him and I with my little point and shoot 35mm camera.  Later in the night when I was outside on my phone he came out and thanked me for being cool about not taking his picture. I appreciated that and while I haven’t bought the last two N.E.R.D albums I do still wear trucker hats from time to time… so respect.

Later Nick showed up and brought his Fool’s Gold partner Atrak with him and Atrak brought his brother Dave 1 of Chromeo.  Roofeeo from the Death Set showed up with his girlfriend and Matt & Kim. I finally met Matt & Kim which seemed a long time coming because we have so many friends and they were pretty awesome.  One of their crew was this dude Taylor who is actually roommates in LA with my friend Annaliese who runs Gods Girls.  Small fucking world. I also met a NYC graffiti artist named Fumero. I had shot his work for Unseen NYC and I recognized his work on his t-shirt. We had a good conversation and I hope to get him involved somehow with Unseen.

The party was fun and the meat on a stick was awesome but soon I was in my rental car with far too many people.  I had an entire band in the passenger seat (Matt & Kim) along with Matt’s brother, Taylor, Roofeeo & his his girlfriend in the back seat.  We went to the Miami version of Bardot where Matt & Kim were doing a DJ set.  I hung out with those kids for most of the night and unfortunately could not take photos in that club.  At some point we met up with some guys from Fader who took us to Electric Pickle which was pretty dead but their was an amazing taco truck parked outside. By this time Kim and Matt’s brother Fletcher were so wasted it was amazing. She could barely walk and  Fletcher kept taking off his shirt. From that point on it is kind of a blur but I ended up with a film canister full of wine, we hunted for chickens, scared several people at Wallgreen’s and listened to Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” five times in a row.  I ended up getting back to my place around 7am.  It was a pretty fucking good night.

Toyota Antics Art Basel Party – 12.2.10

I have no idea what a Toyota Antics is but I assume based on my knowlage of what a Toyota is that it is a car.  I don’t really care.  All I know is that Prince Terrance was DJing a party at Grand Central in Miami and last time I was there I met some of the hottest girls I have ever seen in my life. They both happened to be from Georgia but still I figured it couldn’t hurt to go back to Grand Central.  This turned out to be the only real party I shot while I was in Miami. I went to a bunch that I didn’t shoot and I shot some stuff that wasn’t crazy night club stuff, but this was the only real party I did all week. I caught Phantogram and Twin Shadow but unfortunately I missed Flosstradaums. I don’t know that guy but he got me into a party at SXSW so I figured the least I could do was come see him do his thing. But I went to Bar with Terry for a minute and never came back.

Twin Shadow were the highlight of the thing and Terry kept telling me they are the next big thing and that we would be glad later that we saw them now.  He described them as the Smith’s but less dancy which sounded like a horrible idea but they actually were pretty good.

After I went to Bar with Terry I decided that I should call it an early night and go figure out a way to edit my photos so I could send them to the Miami New Times.  I left my USB cord at home and I hadn’t found one while I was in Miami yet so I figured that 4:30 AM on a Thursday night was the right time to go find one. I tried Wallgreen’s with no luck and then I tried a CVS. They didn’t have one either. I asked the guy behind the counter and he didn’t seem to interested in helping until he found out I was a Miami Dolphins fan.  I asked him if I could buy a scanner they were selling and return it after I used the USB cord. He told me if I came back in under an hour I could just pull the cord out of the box and borrow it. I did him one better. I went to my rental car and brought back my computer and my camera and I dumped the images at the counter in the store. It was just me, my computer, the clerk and a half asleep security guard at nearly 5am in the morning.

By 8 am I had edited and turned in all my images and I was ready to sleep for a few hours and hit Miami again in the afternoon.  Good times.

NADA Party – 12.2.10

The New Dealers Art Alliance thew a party on Thursday night during Art Basel.  I was assigned to it by the Miami New Times. I honestly had no idea where I was or what it was for or what I was doing there.  I just took pictures and drove myself crazy because I didn’t get any cell reception at Canyon Ranch, whatever that was. I did see The Cobrasnake there so maybe the party was something worth going to.  I still really have no idea. I spent a lot of the time talking to a girl who I went to high school with. She was in my brothers class, a few years below me, so I don’t remember her too well but she told that I once bench pressed her in the hall of my school.  That sounds like a super jock thing to do which is an interesting image to associate me with. I did play football but I was a punk rock kid so I am not sure how this bench pressing thing translates. Plus I had a bad shoulder so I maxed out at 150lbs when I worked out. Also Kolkoz DJ’d. Not my high school but the NADA party.

Okay, this is the most random update story ever so I am just going to go. Click here to see all the pictures from the NADA Art Fair Party at Canon Ranch in Miami.
