NC-17 – 9.17.10

I am going to make this quick. I am leaving town in 30 min for my friends memorial service on Sunday. I will be back probably on Tuesday. I have at least one update planned for Monday but I’ll try to update at least once more this weekend. I guess we will see how it goes.

Last night I went to Lit for  NC-17. It had been a while since I shot that party, or Lit at all for that matter.  I got there pretty early and planned on shooting a lot but I ran into my friend Liah.  I had the HUGEST crush on her like three years ago before she moved to Texas and I haven’t seen her in probably 18 months so I sort of hung out with her all night instead of taking photos.  I once shot her before half naked on a roof and we took a few sexy (but safe for work) images in the bathroom. Wow it’s been ages since I shot in a Lit bathroom.  Anyway, it was great to see her and there are a handful of shot of people not named Liah too. So you should check those out.

Also, I wanted to say that for the first time ever I managed not to shoot even one fashion related event during New York Fashion Week. I am pretty impressed with myself. A few seasons ago I tore my knee and was in a knee brace and still shot two shows.

Okay, that’s enough of that. Click here to see the pictures from last nights NC-17 party at Lit Lounge.

All My Friends Are In Bands (Part 4)

The All My Friends Are In Bands series continues. Every time three of my friends have a new music video out I post them up here for you bastards to enjoy.  This week I was sitting on two videos that I wanted to post but I didn’t have a third so I reached out to my Twitter account for a third video.  I got a few suggestions but they weren’t exactly what I needed so I picked a special video for the third one. You should check out those suggestions anyway.  Check out BST’s band live, check out some insane thing Dan Baxter is working on and check out a video for a band that my friend Brian produced. (He produced the music not the video. Anyway, let’s move on to the videos….

We start with a video that my friend Trev directed. I don’t actually know Ralphy Boy, but I don’t hate him at all. Trev runs The New Pop and wrote and directed the movie epically I starred in. Ralphy Boy’s song is called “Get It” and the whole thing reminds me a little bit of “What’s Up Fat Lip“. So check it out already.

Next up we got the new video from my boy Shwazye.  He just came out with a solo album under his real name “Aaron Smith”.  It’s called Love Stoned and you can get it completely free online.  The album is pretty killer even if it’s a little California for my tastes. That hasn’t stopped me from listening to it a bunch.  I met Shwazye at Sundance a few years ago because we have the same watch.  Dude is always fun to hang out with.  You should read this story about the time I went to Beatrice with him. Crazy night.  Anyway, check out his video for “Said It All Before” right now.

And lastly, this video is not new but clearly very important. As you probably are sick of hearing about by now, my friend Ross Harman died last Monday. His memorial service is this Sunday so tomorrow I am going out of town for it. I will be back Monday or Tuesday. I miss the kid so fucking much but I hope that once I properly grieve with friends and family I can start to move on and get back to my life. Anyway, this is Ross’ band The Gaskets’s video for a song called “Eiffel Tower. It was directed by our friend Grier Dill. It got accepted into the SXSW Film Fest and stars yours truly as the Hitleresque villain Hell bent on destroying pop music. I hope you like it, it’s pretty fucking amazing. And remember all The Gaskets music is available completely free now on TheGaskets.com.

Draven Star

Draven Star is one of my favorite Burning Angel girls and I was excited to shoot her again at the Alumni 2012 look book shoot. They made her look super goth and I hate dark lipstick but she showed me her boobs in a bathroom so I don’t know what the fuck I am complaining about. I shot her once before backstage at Public Assembly but I hope one of these days we get to do a real shoot instead of these quickies  in the back of some place.

I am sort of an idiot because I forgot to get her to cover her boobs in a few pictures so I would have something to post on the main page, so there is only one image below, but this gallery is NSFW and there are lots of exciting things inside. Get excited.

Rando – 9.14.10

I finally went out for the first time in like 5 days. I have been pretty shitty recently since the death of my friend but I need to start going out again or it’s just going to make it worse. Last night I was only out for a few hours but it was really good to see everyone. Rando is pretty much my favorite party right now so it seems like I am there every week even if I am not shooting anything else. Gallery Bar is just a good spot for fun.  Big upstairs, sweaty down stairs, multiple lockable bathrooms, friendly bouncers and lots of fights to watch.  Everything I want in a bar.

It was my boy Slutlust’s birthday last night so I had to go out and see him.  He missed my birthday but I gave him a pass because he got hit by a car. I found out it was several other people’s birthdays as well including a pair of twins.  Also in town were both Darkroom Demons which was the first time I have ever seen those kids together.  Separately I have seen them in LA, NYC, and Austin, but they live in Chicago so they get around is much as I do. Good dudes. Also last night DJ Jess was DJing upstairs and he played an old school Trash set which was fun.  I hate a lot of those songs but I was really digging them last night… How the fuck did I learn the lyrics to This Charming Man?

I think that’s all I have to report from last night. Click here to see the pictures from Rando at Gallery Bar.

Johnny Ryan Prison Pit Party – 9.10.10

Comic and illustrator Johnny Ryan had a party at Mishka for the release of his new book Prison Pit Book 2. He has work on display at Mishka for the next six weeks. If you have picked up a Vice Magazine any time in the last few years you have seen Johnny Ryan’s work. I look at his stuff every day because the Mishka/Ellen Stagg calendar is accompanied by his illustrations. They are super fucked up and usually not funny in a hilarious way if that makes any sense at all.  Maybe they are hilarious in a not funny way. I am not exactly sure but you can look at some of his work in these photos and then you can look at his website and buy his book.  Or do none of that. I don’t really care. All that matters is that you know his stuff is fucking awesome.

I shot these photos for Complex Magazine so you should look at them over there too with a totally different write up from this one.  That is important somehow.

Click here to see all my photos from the Jonny Ryan Prison Pit Party at Mishka’s 350 Broadway store.

Oh No! It’s Football Season!

Hello, my name is Igor and I am a professional football fan.

I hate to do this to you guys, but it’s that time of year again: football season. If you meet me 8 months out of the year you would probably never guess that I cared about football, much less base my entire well being on the success of the Miami Dolphins.  Why the Dolphins? I have no idea. I am from DC. I should be a Skins fan. I think my dad being a Cowboys fan and growing up in DC made it so I couldn’t like either of those rival teams. Some time around 1988 I picked the Dolphins and I have stuck to it.

If you didn’t know by now I am not a causal fan.  I am obsessed. I am a 30 year old man who collects football cards. I own a pair of Ricky Williams cleats and most oddly I run the New York City Miami Dolphins fan club, Dolfans NYC. This is a club with over 500 members who meet at a Murray Hill sports bar called Third and Long every Sunday.  I lead the crowd in chants and the Dolphins fight song. It is really really weird. Last Sunday I lost my voice screaming in a bar.

Now how does this effect you? Well I will try to limit my posts to one or less a week for the next 17 weeks.  We have a bye week and I am going out of town next weekend so you are down to a maximum of 15 Dolphins related posts… unless of course we make the play offs…

Anyway, moving on I just wanted to drop this one poorly shot gallery from week one of the Dolphins season at Third and Long sports bar. And for the record we won beating the Buffalo Bills which was nice since I grew up hating them more than any other team.  That of course has been replaced with my hatred of the NY Jets but we will save that tale for week 3.  Go Dolphins!

Patton Suicide

During the Alumni 2012 look book shoot my friend and amazing photographer Steve Prue showed up.  He brought a couple Suicide Girls with them and was using the studio Alumni rented to shoot a few pics and hook the girls up with some Alumni clothes. One of the girls was the super cute Patton Suicide who has to have the most graphically violent Ohio related tattoo on Earth.  I talked to her for about roughly two minutes before we were in a completely dark bathroom taking photos. It was very hard to compose shots in complete darkness but I think we did okay…

So check out these super cute pictures of Patton Suicide in and out of one of the new Alumni 2012 sweat shirts. Clearly NSFW.

Behind The Scenes Of The Alumni 2012 Look Book

Back in may on the day of my 30th birthday I awoke strangely not that hung over. The night before I got so drunk that I ate a bag of cocaine and got stuck in my laundry basket. I don’t even do drugs… much less eat them. So when I woke up the next day I didn’t really think I was going to be functional. Surprisingly I was, and the Alumni look book shoot was happening a few blocks away from me so I stumbled over there with my camera in hand.

I was hired to do just a general behind the scenes shoot and just get shots of the goings on so that when the look book was launched I could bring you a post just like this promoting the new line. But I really think I was mostly there to get the Burning Angels and Suicide Girls who where there modeling naked in the bathroom. I am totally fine with that. So not only do I have this wonderful gallery of behind the scenes shots from the look book shoot, but I also have three galleries of hot alt babes that I will be bringing to  you throughout the week… Starting with later today..

So, get excited about the new Alumni line. The shirts are fresh. I have a couple shirts I have been wearing since May and people love them.  Check out the new Alumni 2012 website and buy some shit. And then click right here to look at all of the BTS photos from the Alumni shoot.  The NSFW shots are just tiny previews from the hot galleries to come. I repeat: get excited!

Ross Harman’s Symphony

Teddy Blanks was Ross Harman’s bandmate and  best friend.  In 2007 Teddy compiled an album of Ross’ solo work (aka Ballpoint Pens) called Calcutta. When Ross died Teddy went to work immediately putting together Ross’ work into a second album called Symphony. Teddy then took down the website for their band and put up a brand new site that has free downloadable versions of Calcutta and Symphony as well as nearly every Gaskets release. Pretty soon their feature length concert movie Loose Change Live will be available for free download as well. I also have a pretty obsessively organized scrap book of Gaskets flyers, press clippings and photos that I hope to scan and get online as well. Hopefully the site will become a pretty good archive of the history of The Gaskets.

Anyway, you should click here to download Symphony. It features 17 tracks including his song for my brothers film “Cows on a Popemobile” which was used for the credits of a featurette on the Snakes on a Plane DVD.

Here are two sample songs from the album and make sure to check out The Gaskets website for much more free music.

PS. For those wondering who I have not talked to, Ross’ funeral was today in Louisiana and was just a small family only affair. We will be celebrating his life on Sunday September 19th at Cous Cous in Richmond, VA. Any of Ross’ friends are invited. Contact me for more details.
