Dolfans At The Draft

One of the main reasons I had issues updating the last few days was because I was geeking out about Pro-Football.  As you might know I co-run a Miami Dolphins fan club in NYC called DolfansNYC.  Yes, I am aware that is an amazingly weird thing to do, especially for a hipster douchebag nightlife icon such as myself. But very few people I know like football, and I need someone to talk touchdowns with, so I started a group of people to watch games with every Sunday and it is a lot of fun, so screw you.

Anyway, Wednesday we waited in line from 5pm until nearly 11pm when we got our tickets.  On Thursday we got there around 330 and they let us in around 630. I didn’t get home until almost midnight.  On Friday I got there around four and watched until the Dolphins picked and got home early enough to take a nap and go out last night.  But still the whole thing took up a lot of afternoons normally reserved for me doing shit, but it was a lot of fun, and we would have been on ESPN except the camera near us fucked up seconds after the camera guy told us we were about to go live. I am not someone who cares about getting on TV like that, but I did want to get the club out there to spread the word to Phins fans in NYC that are watching the games at home in hiding. And although we didn’t make it on TV, at least we did end up on NFL.com.

Anyway, I didn’t take a ton of pictures, but if you want to see some of them, you can click here and check it all out. I know you guys are going to be really upset but sorry, there is no nudity in this set…

Thee Oh Sees – 3.18.10

Finally we are back to getting up some more SXSW stuff… I hate that I am so behind on everything…

One of the cool things about Austin is that they have a lot of generator shows on a bridge. It’s not quite as epic as the shows on the Williamsburg Bridge, but at least the cops show up less often. One of the nights I was at SXSW my friends dragged me to the bridge. I wanted to go to this Ranch where people were having after parties, but they didn’t want to go that far out of town so they took me to the bridge.  None of us had any idea who was playing, but when we got there they were really psyched to see the Thee Oh Sees were playing. I heard about them for the first time just hours earlier in the day, but my friends were big fans.  She show got pretty out of control, but only for three songs at a time.  Thee Oh Sees were switching off every three songs with another band that was set up right next to them.  The other band was pretty good, but no one seemed to care.  Everyone just stood there looking bored until Thee Oh Sees started back up and then people went fucking crazy.  I didn’t even bother shooting the other band, but I wish I at least remembered their name. Oh well…

Brendan Sullivan’s Garden Party – 3.19.10

My friend and Vice co-conspirator Brendan Sullivan (aka DJ VH1) wrote an article on Lady Gaga that was part of Esquire’s Women We Love issue. It’s his biggest credit to date so he decided to throw a fancy garden party at his Ft. Greene apartment.  He lives in a pretty amazing brownstone right near BAM and it has a nice back yard perfect for a soiree such as this. He did it up with Trash’s Brendon James running the door and getting bartender reality show contestant Trevor Schneider to serve the drinks (and catch popcorn in his mouth) and of course he hired the infamous Igor from Driven By Boredom to take photos.  Then again I left before he paid me and he forgot and left the money he owed me in the tux he somehow borrowed from Dolce & Gabbana. Evidently the “head of celebrity dressing” was not super happy that he got drunk and halfway destroyed the suit, but I am sure she was happy with the tip he accidentally left in the pocket.

I had a lot of fun at the party.  A ton of my friends were there and it was great to talk to them in an environment without loud dance music playing.  There was good food, free booze an adorable puppy that knows how to pose for pictures. Some of the guys from the sketch comedy troop Olde English were there and it was cool to talk to them because I reviewed their website for a magazine in 2004. They are currently working on feature length movie.  I also met a super rad barista/comedian who I ended up talking to for half the night, although when I asked to see her again she told me she “was around”. Great.

Anyway, I am super proud of Brendan and he and I are working on a new story for Vice so hopefully any successes he has will somehow benefit me, because really, isn’t that the only reason to have friends?

Arrrg…

As far as updating my website goes this week has been a disaster.  I have been crazy busy doing day time stuff and not getting enough done at night.  I am headed to the NFL Draft right now and I thought I was going to get to update my website before I left but my internet has been out for the last two hours and now that it is finally working I have to leave.  I have so much shit to get you guys and I just wanted to let you know I still love you.  I have some SXSW ready to go and some photos from a lovley garden party, plus three sets of naked girls.  I mean, so much good stuff, but things just keep getting in my way.  I am going to be putting previews up on my Tumblr so check that in the mean time.  Have a video for your time, see you ASAP. Xo.

Shepard Fairey Does Deitch The Wall

Shepard Fairey wheatpasted a huge May Day mural on the Deitch Wall on Bowery and Houston last night.  I was headed out last night and I saw it going up so I took a few pictures.  When I was looking online for info on the wall I found a video that Animal NY posted interviewing Shepard about the wall and a few other things.  I was standing about 2 feet away from them during this interview so anything I would tell you about this project I over heard from this interview, so instead of typing about it, I will just link you to the video, and post a couple of my shots below.

Also, if you haven’t had a chance check out “Exit Through The Gift Shop” the Banksy produced film about Mister Brainwash and the street art movement.  Shepard Fairey has a lot of screen time in it.  It is a pretty fantastic film, I saw it last Saturday.

Perez Hilton’s One Night In Austin – 3.20.10

Okay, and we are back with pictures of all the bands that played the party.  If you want to see who they all are, check out the list of set times.  Highlights for me were VV Brown, Alphabeat and Marina and the Diamonds.  VV Brown was crazy playing some funk fusion madness, dressed totally insane and just being amazing.  Alphabeat were total pop goodness and a lot of fun to watch.  And before they played everyone told me that Marina and the Diamonds would be awesome and they were.  That chick is so rad.  You guys probably all know about all these bands already, but if you don’t you might want to check them out asap. But that was the unexpected highlights.

The reason I went to the party in the first place was for Snoop and Hole.  If this concert took place in 1994 I would have lost my mind, but it was still pretty awesome to see it.  I only got to see one song of Snoop’s as I mentioned before but it was fucking awesome.  I really wish I saw the rest of it, I mean just look at this set list!  Amazing.  I had the biggest crush on Courtney Love when I was obsessed with Nirvana and although I don’t really listen to her music anymore, I would still go on just tons of dates with Courtney (or her daughter, whatever..). I got to watch all of her show from the crowd once I told the press people I was leaving. I might have missed photos of Courtney backstage, but I was very sick of being held in a press pen.

I split the photos into three galleries so click below to see the photos you need to see:

One Night In Austin Crowd Shots – 3.20.10

So Perez Hilton did his big party in Austin and a ton of bands played and there was an insane crowd of people trying to get in and total madness and all that.  I just sort of shoved my way through until I was somehow over a barrier and the security grabbed me and I started yelling shit about the Village Voice and they brought me to some table at which point they let me in without even asking my name or to see any ID. Then again, as media you didn’t really get to actually enjoy the party.  They sort of ran us around like sheep, keeping us in this caged off back area. At one point before Snoop came in we had to all stay in one room that was about 100 degrees and all of the photographers missed shooting Estelle because of it. We also didn’t get to see more than one song of Snoops set.  I was pretty annoyed.  So I did get out a little bit to shoot the crowd but I had to keep coming back to get lined up for shooting the bands.  But it was much better set up last year, which is why most of these crowd shots are actually back stage shots, with just a handful of actual crowd pictures.  I’ll be back with the band photos in a few minutes, until then…

Disco Vibes – 4.16.10

I had some troubles getting photos up today and I am late for an event. I just wanted to get these pictures up that should have been up yesterday. Ill do a real update about the party later, but for now click here to see the shots from Disco Vibes. Mildy NSFW.

Update:

So Disco Vibes was a bit slow because I was raining and awful out.  I almost stayed home.  But as it got later and Princess Superstar started spinning and getting the crowd going it got pretty fun.  I hung outside a lot too once it started raining because I don’t get reception inside the Cove or Hugs or whatever it’s called these days.  I also was trying to bounce stuff off the celling there and the photos didn’t look as good as I thought they would when I got home. Oh well, such is life.  It was a fun night anyway…

And shout out to Kill Shop Kill of course for throwing the party and having me out to shoot it…

More Tattoos!

Guess what? Two more people got Driven By Boredom tattoos today!

My friend Jess at Glamour Garage is amazing.  She has now done six of these things.  With four others in existence there are now 10 people with my logo tattooed to them.  Amazing.

The two victims are my friend Fat Shain who you have seen on my site go-going at Trash on Fridays and Chelsea from the Portland rap group SistaFist. I met her on Friday night and she just decided it would be a good idea to get my logo tattooed to her.  I honestly have no idea why but I love her for it.  Shain has been talking about getting my logo done ever since he saw my drippy logo t-shirt. He thought my logo would look great dripping over his knee.  It does.

I am on my way to Philly for the night to shoot some naked Burning Angels, so I am only putting up a few pictures now, but tomorrow I will upload the rest of them and they will be available with all the other DBB tattoo pics by clicking right here.

See you tomorrow.

Ps. Starting in two weeks Jess is going to be at Glamour Garage full time, so stop in and check her out. And if you want a free Driven By Boredom tattoo let me know and Jess and I will hook it up.
