The last time Teddy Blanks played CMJ he was fronting the Gaskets and they were opening for a huge band at the Blender Theater. Well, Blender is out of business and so are the Gaskets, but Teddy is kicking ass on his own and he is playing a CMJ showcase tomorrow. Pete’s Candy Store is just slightly smaller than the Blender Theater, but I think it will be a good time just the same. I think you should come out. He plays at pretty much exactly 11 Tuesday night. Several months ago I stumbled upon this website called SEND ME YOUR HEAD. The site is very simple, this woman Karen Schmidt is painting tons and tons of 3 inch by 3 inch portraits from photos. She puts up a portrait nearly every day and is asking people to send in photos so she can paint your head. Her work is great and I really liked the project so I sent her a picture of my 91 year old grandmother Josephine. Months later I got an email from Karen letting me know that she had finally painted my grandma. I think the painting is awesome, and so should you. Check it out below and then go to the site and send in your own photos to get painted. I don’t see how you have any other choice.
Pepsi has started some sort of DJ Collective. I am all for it. I am not really a big cola drinker, but I am all for big companies paying us to throw parties, but be warned, contract or no, we will not bow down to any sponsor. The Pepsi DJ Collective features a bunch of people who regularly show up on this site. The party they threw yesterday featured Roxy Cottontail, DJ Drama and Diplo. It was thrown by Roxy so she had her girl Maluca play who is on Diplo’s Mad Decent label. Maluca is Dominican and I happen to live in a Dominican neighborhood, but I was still slightly surprised when I came home at 9AM one morning and saw her and Roxy filming her new music video outside my apartment. I have shot her a few times and she is always fun. She pretty much killed it last night.
The party was in a warehouse on N. 8th in Williamsburg. I think that spot is going to be a regular venue but I don’t think it has a name yet. It did have a bunch of projectors playing crazy visuals all over the walls during the party. It was pretty nuts. The party was hot and sweaty and a perfect combo between Brooklyn warehouse party and corporate event… meaning you could smoke inside and I got free food. There were some good surprises with people grabbing the mic during Diplo’s set. Telli from Ninjasonik did Hold The Line with some help from Star City and Skerrit Bwoy did what he does. Amanda Blank and Atrak showed up as well.
Tonight I am getting some of that corporate money shooting an event for Roxy Cottontail and the Pepsi DJ Collective. Diplo is headlining and DJ Drama and Eli Escobar are DJing as well. Maluca is performing and you should check her out while you can… I got a feeling she is going to blow up soon. I have no idea if I can get anyone in so don’t ask me about it. Just come out. My old friend Colin is sick. A few months ago he found out he had a stage 4 inoperable brain tumor. That is not good. His only chance now is to fight it with chemo and hope for a miracle. Colin, despite not hiring me at Starbucks many years ago, is a rad fucking dude. I have spent a lot of weird and hilarious times with him. I think the last time I saw him I watched the election results come in with him and his girlfriend Christine. I do not want him to die. You do not want him to die. He needs help. He now has website that is documenting his treatment. The goal is both awareness and fund raising. Chemo is not cheap. Not being able to work because you are too week to stand up is not cheap. Colin is selling “Terminate The Tumor” bracelets in the style of the Livestrong bands. Now while Colin has never won the Tour De France, I also don’t think he has taken steroids before, and I have watched him put a cigarette out on his arm which seems just as impressive.
I bought a bracelet but I am as broke as I have ever been in my life and I live 6 hours away so I am not in any position to help him, but I can link his website and ask my friends and fans to buy a bracelet or donate some money or at the very least, retweet this post (click the button in the upper left hand corner of this post), link his site or just tell your friends about it. Anything you can do would mean a lot to me, to Colin and to all his family and friends.
And since half you people just come here to see boobs, maybe I can help you out too. Years ago Colin and my friend Raechel were in some weird scavenger hunt thing and it had a bonus round. The bonus round was to make a tape of just weird fucked up shit with extra points for nudity and violence. We happened to have found a wire grill cleaning brush that happened to make for great entertainment. If you wacked someone with it, not only did it hurt like hell but it instantly started bleeding in a very amusing pattern. We thought that hitting each other with this could garner some points… and even more points if Rae’s giant boobs were some how involved. I never got around to doing anything with the video, but when I heard about Colin I figured this was the perfect reason to get it up, and use the traffic it gained to help murder the bullshit growing in my man’s head.

I am going to give you guys a little break from football news after this post. I know you guys don’t care, and the Dolphins have a bye week so it will be a while until I take any new DolfansNYC pictures. I do have to mention yesterday as it was one of the best games of my life. The Dolphins put a hurting on my least favorite team, the New York Jets. They beat them with our innovative offense, the Wild Cat, even though they have been talking all season about being able to stop it. Their fat fuck coach basically cried after the game, and I laughed my ass off. The Dolphins defense didn’t play great and we had to win it with 7 seconds left in the game, but it was still pretty fucking fantastic. At out bar, Third and Long, everyone lost their shit and I actually crowd surfed at the end of the game. Dan Baxter shot some footage so when he gets that to me it will probably be the next time I mention the Dolphins.
In one of the dumber moves in the history of this website I somehow managed to upload the unedited high resolution images to the site instead of the ones with watermarks. It was a very odd thing to do, but my gallery software automatically resizes images so I guess it’s not a big deal. Check out the photos from Monday Night Football here. My friend and tattoo artist Friday Jones asked me to come shoot an event she was throwing at the salon that she has her tattoo studio called Senses NY. They are a swanky 5th avenue salon that does all sorts of things including tattoos. They are working on a reality pilot and as part of the show they wanted to throw a big benefit for breast cancer awareness month. They got a bunch of sexy kids and painted them and charged $10 if you wanted to write your name on them, they sold pink hair extensions, they had a remembrance wall and they had a big raffle. There was also a suggested donation at the door. It looked liked they raised a lot of money.
I wanted to win one of the prizes which was to have Fran Drescher do your voicemail message. I don’t know if you know this about me, but I am a HUGE Nanny fan. I mean, I have had a crush on Fran for well over a decade. The event was benefiting her charity Cancer Schmancer although unfortunately she wasn’t there. She has a boyfriend anyway, so I couldn’t hit on her, even though she does follow me on Twitter.
The party was a lot of fun, and I ate a bunch of Salmon and people drank a lot of free Hypnotic, there was pink stuff everywhere and most importantly they raised a lot of money for women’s health. Fucking awesome.
Steve Aoki returned to Webster Hall for the seemingly millionth time. The guy always brings it though and it’s a good chance to listen to other DJ’s bitch about how much he sucks and how unfair it is that he is famous. As someone who doesn’t know anything about DJing, all I know is that Steve can get a crowd going nuts, which seems to me what being a DJ should be all about. But what the fuck do I know?
It was Neon Music’s birthday at Trash so there was all sorts of weirdness going on. Tobell Von Cartier preformed with Neon and sort of took over the show. Melody Sweets and Stormy got all silvery and I took some mediocre pictures. Oh joy, oh joy.
