Put A Donk On It

So I have been down with the Donk for a minute now, but it seems like everyone from Vice to Ex-Vice is talking shit about Donk and I have got something to say. I like Donk. I am officially coming out as a pro-donk blogger. There aren’t many of us yet, but we will grow in numbers. All the pretentious assholes doing the smack talk are just lying to themselves.

If you haven’t heard about Donk yet, get hip to it. It is Southern Northern (Ed. note: woops!) English dance music where they take other electronic music and throw these bassy donks over top. Then they rap over it. Everyone and their mother is calling these dudes white trash and mocking the music, but frankly I hear much worse shit from a lot of the “top” DJ’s in the NYC dance scene. Frankly on top of the essential hilariousness of this shit, I legitimately like this music. I can’t seem to find a Blackout Crew album online, but like I just keep watching their shit on YouTube over and over again and I feel like we need to bring this to the US right away. There is also a pretty good VBS documentary about all of this which is probably what stirred up all the internet shit talking. You should watch it. This music has helped a lot of poor kids in England stay off the street and try to do productive shit with their lives, even if that shit involves a lot of sex and drugs. Them making music and doing meth is probably better than them just doing meth… right?

Anyway, this video has had four million views so far, so clearly someone likes this music. And while I have probably listened to it 2.5 million times over the last two months, that still leaves 1.5 million views unaccounted for. So, watch this video, it is life changing. And then let’s bring this shit here. Somebody put a fucking donk on it already. I’ll start making the t-shirts.

Shank – 2.21.09

I have been hearing about the great things that have been happening at this warehouse party in Greenpoint for a few weeks now but I had not had a chance to check out out. Last night I finally made the move over to 98 Bayard St. It was only a matter of time before a sick Brooklyn warehouse party blew up in these recessionary times. PBR tends to be a lot cheaper than a $20 vodka at One Oak. My brother was at a house party up the street and thinks Ninjasonik is fucking hilarious, so I convinced him to meet me there. It was pretty awesome to get to hang out with him because I rarely do. Can you guess who he is? The sound system was fucked up so appearances by Japanther and the aforementioned Ninjasonik were slightly limited but I don’t think anyone really gave a fuck. They just tore shit up. Who needs mics? Or bass? Or treble? Not the kids man… The kids just wanna dance. Things got out of control. At one point I put down my camera and fucked shit up in the pit. But that’s what happens when you play Bad Brains while I am in the room. Anyway, I shot off camera again so things were a bit hit or miss, but I got some good shots. You can see the madness for yourself by clicking… right… HERE!

Trash – 2.20.09

Last night was a night for photo bloggers. Bronques was in the house filming people and had a girl with a boom mic following him around. He filmed fellow blogger DJ Jess making out with a cross section of skinny half naked people. That was hilarious. Less hilarious was photog Nicky Digital getting punched in the face during the Semi Precious Weapons show. I personally had an uncomfortable night, but I am not going to go into details. I also saw Jeff and Becker, but they didn’t seem to be causing any commotion. Again, I was playing with the off camera flash. There are a bunch of mediocre shots of SPW and some worse shots of some burlesquing and then some decent photos of your every day rock and roll party going folks. You can see it all here if you just put your mouse on these words and click. Enjoy.

Ruff Club – 2.20.09

Could it really be true that it has been over a year since I shot Ruff Club? Well, not exactly… Ruff has made some appearances in my “Random Nights Out” section,  but this is the first time in just over a year that I have put up a full Ruff Club gallery.  That is nuts.  I wanted to stop by to say hey to the Cobra Kai kids who I hadn’t seen in a minute, and then run over to Midnight To Death at Cake Shop.  Unfortunately “Death” came a bit early and I missed out on all the bands.  I ended up just talking to my friend Nick and took pictures of his sweet mustache.  I just added those to the end of this gallery.  Ruff Club was fun and I got to see some people I haven’t seen in a long time.  I decided to fuck around and pull my flash off my camera.  That is why this stuff probably looks a bit different from normal.  The light on the camera completely blinds people, but sometimes that gets funny results.  I think it is hit or miss… maybe I am just not good enough at it yet, but I do tend to get some crazy shots once in a while.  You can see for yourself by clicking this magical link.

Mishka Spring 2009 Lookbook Outtakes

So you remember the Mishka Lookbook that I shot?  You know the one that Kanye blogged about?  Well I took like 1200 photos that night and of course they only used about 25 of them for the book.  There were a lot of fun shots that didn’t get used so I decided to post them here for you.  There is a little bit of gear that didn’t make the book.  Be on the look out for Mishka socks, Miskha backpacks and Mishka pillows!  I need to cop one of those pillows asap.  The night lasted like 7 hours.  We started out shooting just one couple at home getting ready for the night, then we went over to the Mishka office and just for fun I pulled people off to the side and we got some cool white wall stuff.  Then we headed out to the diner where I shot in the cab, and then over to Studio B for some dancin’.  It was a fun night and now you get to see the rest, and the bonus spring wear.

So check out the outtakes from the Mishka shoot.

Misti Dawn

It is Friday… And that means naked people on the internets.

So the first time I heard about Misti Dawn I made fun of her silly porn name… Turns out it is her actual name.  Seriously; I’ve seen her ID.  Misti is a super hot Burning Angel who recently started doing hardcore pornography there.  This is kinda weird if you were to meet her.  She is kinda the sweetest southern belle you might want to meet.  She is from Kentucky.  My favorite Neil Diamond song is Kentucky Woman and every time I see her it gets stuck in my head.  And seriously, I am a big Neil Diamond fan.  Somebody get on a remix.

Anyway, I had been meaning to shoot her for a while, but it didn’t happen the first two times we hung out, luckily third time was the charm and coincidentally it was her birthday.  So she did what any respectable lady would do on her birthday, she got half naked in the back of a night club for me.  Thank your doll, I hope you had a great birthday and dig the photos.  You guys can see all the shots I took here, watch her have sex via the internets here, and follow her on Twitter over here.  NSFW obvs.

Playhouse – 2.18.09

Finally I got these photos up the day after I took them.  That has to be a first for Cain.  So when I got there, the place was so packed for the Richie Rich after party that I totally freaked out and nearly had a panic attack.  For someone who does event photography, I really don’t like crowds.  So I just sort of stood off to the side and evidently missed shots of Richie and Pam Anderson.  I am not sure how that actually happened, but clearly I fucked up.  I took shots of people until the room emptied out a bit and I had room to set up the photo booth.  Once I started doing that I got in a much better mood and I got some fun shots.  You can see them all here.

Glamour Garage Fashion Show – 2.13.09

I shot the Unlucky In Love fashion show for Inked Magazine last Friday. There is going to be a page of shots in the May issue of Inked but I put up all the hundreds of out takes here. I just hung out back stage and shot the girls getting ready and stuff. I was still super sick, but I got some okay shots I think. The show was a promotion for Glamour Garage run by Rebecca Faye. It is a beauty salon and tattoo parlor in Willamsburg. Rebecca is pretty awesome and I think I am going to do some photo work for her salon in trade for free Driven By Boredom tattoos. That means, that if anyone out there wants the DBB logo tattooed to them, we can get you hooked up. Seriously. If you are crazy enough to get my logo tattooed to you let me know. We will hook it up. I have a list of like 5 people who want to do it, so let’s get nuts.

Anyway, the show was at Europa and then there was an after party at Alligator Greenpoint. There are a few shots from there but 90% of these are from Europa. Also, Gibby Haynes from Butthole Surfers DJ’d, a Suicide Girl hoola-hooped (the most adorable Calamity) and some insane guy name Mr. Move performed. It was out of control.

Check out a bunch of photos of half naked girls here.

Midnight Fistfight – 2.13.09

I shot this fashion show for Inked Magazine last week.  The after party was at the Greenpoint Alligator Lounge.  This band Midnight Fistfight played.  I honestly was not looking forward to it, but the pretty much fucked shit up.  They look pretty metal, but they are pretty rock and roll.  They were pretty much a hard rock band with a few metal solos and a bunch of head banging.  They were pretty awesome.  They were about one Motorhead cover away from melting my face off.  I pulled my flash off my camera and ended up getting some pretty cool shots.  If you ever get a chance to see this band, you should do it. But in the mean time, check out the photos I took of them.
